Twizzyg's Birth Story (She's here!)

The short:
Cora Elizabeth; 7lb 1oz and 19.5in long. Born on 7/14/14 at 0736am.

The long:
Contractions woke me up at 2am, by 3:30 they were getting more painful and at 4:45 I decided I was really in labor and woke DH up and told him, "I think it's time for us to go to the hospital". After packing a few last minute items, we were off and got to the hospital at 6am (we live an hour away...DH got us there in 40 minutes, lol). I got on the elevator while DH parked the car and some IDIOT got on there and had the nerve to go up ONE floor while I was huffing and puffing through contractions! (Cue death stare).

I was checked and was 4.5cm (happy dance that I wasn't just 1cm!) They immediately started bolusing IV fluids for my epidural and took me to labor and delivery at 0630am.

At 0650 they got my epidural (after a failed attempt and me screaming when she hit a nerve that sent excruciating pain down my right leg). BUT, after I got it, I was still feeling everything and started feeling pressure. My nurse checked me and I was 8cm with a bulging bag of water that broke about a minute later around 7:15am. After that, my body took over and started pushing against my will! Baby dropped so fast and was getting squished and her heart rate wound up dropping and it became an urgent delivery and they had to apply a vacuum to help pull her out. (Ouch - big time).

After some more pushing and screaming (I went too fast for the epidural to even work), she was delivered at 0736am! (5.5 hours of labor for a first timer...not bad!)

I was so grateful to be delivering with my friends/co-workers that I knew were taking great care of me when I was not at my most stellar of moments.

and SUPER glad that if it did have to be a painful delivery, at least it was a fast one. And DH was a rock star! He made sure I was ok (as ok as I could be) every step of the way.

And now we have our beautiful daughter, Cora Elizabeth to stare at and fawn over. :x
