STM+ who have had pre-e in prior pregnancies

(I realize this is a little early for this conversation, but still.)

Since we have 1st appointments (or 2nd appts) and such coming up, I thought this would be a good thing to bring up with our docs. I ended up with post partum pre-e after my son was born and I really do not want to go through that again. I have been doing tons of research on it to see if there were any preventions and up to this point there has been consistently nothing. Apparently though- in the last couple of months new research has come out suggesting that a baby aspirin a day might be helpful in reducing the chances of pre-e in high risk moms. I will definitely be having this conversation with my doctor to get their input.

Anyway just wanted to put that out there for any moms who may have experienced pre-e before. I will do just about anything I can to reduce my chances of dealing with that crap a second time!

  • @JennyP0222‌ I also had post partum pre-e and got a second 3 day hospital stay when my son was about a week old because my BP got up to 195/127 (and that was after a couple of days of meds/monitoring). My Dr told me that I could forever be susceptible to BP problems and that I had only about a 15-20% higher chance of recurring pre-e, but I'll definitely be talking to my new OB about it if I can get past a first appt this time!

  • @beckyj2013 It is pretty rare and I do not think they know why/how it happens post delivery. I too had always heard the "only cure is delivery" thing, and it was NOT something I was expecting to get after I gave birth.

@wendyld Wow that is some scary high BP! I do not think mine was ever even close to that but I exact same situation here. 1 week after my son was born, 3 days in the hospital on mag. Sucked so badly. I got sent home with BP meds which I took for 3 weeks but now it is back to normal. Such a scary experience.
