Daycare tomorrow. Help!

My LO is 9 weeks old now and has to start daycare tomorrow! I went back to work when he was 6 weeks but my mom has been able to come to my house and watch him since then. We've had his daycare picked for months and months and I have a couple friends whose LO's went there but I'm still freaking out!!! I never went to daycare. My grandparents lived next door and helped raise me. DH did go to daycare so he's more ok with this. I know people do this all the time and we have chosen a safe place and we can even log onto our phones or computers and see LO at any time (daycare has cameras). How do you cope?!?!

  • If there's anyway you can go on your lunch break to maybe give your LO a bottle/BF. This way it gives you a chance to check in during the middle of the day. Helps break up the day that you're away and also helps you get to know the teachers and the people keeping your LO. This really helped me when DS went to daycare and I kept going for almost 6 months so I could still feel really involved in his first months. Then once he transitioned into the next room I was comfortable with daycare he was happy to be there and all was well.
  • I know how hard it is, hang in there! The cameras are very helpful, our daycare has them too and I found it very reassuring to check in on DS on a live feed whenever I needed to. Soon it will be so routine that you will adjust and feel more comfortable. Seeing how many people go to my kids daycare helps me a lot too....we are not alone. I haven't started this lo in it yet but soon he will be joining his brother. It's so hard to leave them, I know. DS1 is a little social butterfly though, we can go anywhere new and he jumps right in and starts playing with everyone and having fun. Try not to worry, everyone will adjust. You will meet lots of other parents too and your LO will meet so many new friends. At almost 4 this kid gets more party invitations in one month than I do in a year.

Good luck today. It is so hard
I go back to work in a month and will be feeling exactly as you do ! Thinking of you!
  • Thanks all!  I survived but boo-hooed all morning yesterday getting him dressed and the whole way there.  I did ok when I was in daycare but then sat in parking lot and boo-hooed again.  Then stopped on way to work to regroup before I came to work.  I went to visit LO on my lunch break yesterday and today-- that helped.  And i've watched him on camera a lot.  Today was easier but still sucked!
