March 2015 Moms

What will you do different this time?

And what will you do the same?

Change:
I let myself gain an embarrassing amount of weight last time. I kept thinking if I ate more I'd feel better. Nope. Just makes you fat.

I'd like to stop stressing about every little thing. Easier said than done.

I'll remind myself that I'm not going to die during transition, now that I know what it feels like, and just press in - knowing I'm close to the end.

Keep:
I exercised all through the pregnancy, even though I was "too tired" to all the time. I think that helped alot.

Packing the hospital bag early.

Re: What will you do different this time?

  • I think I'm going to attempt a natural birth this time. Last time I knew I'd get an epi, it was just a matter of when. It won't be the end of the world to me if I end up getting one, but I'd like to set out with the intention of not.

I also really want to go into labor on my own. Last time I was induced for medical reasons after an NST, and it was upsetting for me for a plethora of reasons. I really want to experience spontaneous labor!

  • Change: I will keep a better eye on my weight. Gained an obscene amount with DS.

I want to try for a vbac with no Epi. I know that's a huge task but I want to at least try.

Keep: being ready weeks ahead of time so I can relax at the end.

Start on HG treatment immediately. I'm 4w 3d and I already feel like poop. Maybe that will lessen the blow.

    Hire a cleaning lady.

    SURPRISE! Here comes #3!
  • I want to be a little tougher at the end.  I was really miserable but I think some of that had to do with the heat and being so pregnant.  I'm looking forward to being pregnant during the cold weather and NOT in the south so I'm really going to try and not be so whiny at the end.

  • Change:
    - I'm definitely trying to watch the weight gain with this one, especially in the 1st tri.  I gained so much last time thinking the extra carbs would help the m/s that it just set me behind the 8-ball.  (Admittedly, the fact that I have a wedding dress to fit into at 10w is helping me achieve this goal. :))
    - I may try BF'ing this baby.  I never did with DD.  I'm on the fence with this one, but I feel like I've got a much better support system this time around so it might be worth the try.

    Keep:
    - I will still take naps as frequently as my life allows.  Because, c'mon, who doens't love a good nap?!
    - I will still attempt a med-free delivery, but I will also not feel guilty if I opt for the epi a second time.

  • Change: my eating & exercise habits. I'm pregnant not dying! 30 minutes of exercise is fine and actually makes me feel better. And whatever I eat, means I'll have to work that much harder post-baby to get back into shape.

Keep: my journal about the experience. I love reading back on my first one.

  • So relaxing and not worrying about every little thing.. How do you do that?? I'm a first-time expectant mother and I'm so nervous about doing everything right, as far as prenatal health for the baby. I worry a bit too much, hubby is always telling me to relax. Meeting our new doc and asking questions has helped though..
  • I can't purposefully change or control the things that went wrong last time. My waters broke and I was GBS positive so I was on the clock. I didn't progress naturally and my birth plan went out the window. I wanted no meds and ended up on pitocin. Pitocin contractions are the devil. I had failed epis (multiple) and it was a gigantic mess. So if there is one thing I REALLY want to change - it would be that my waters don't break before I'm far enough along to progress naturally. Or that my body doesn't do what it did last time since my midwife is stumped as to why I wouldn't progress.

I'm happy with how my pregnancy played out last time. Nothing I'd really like to change about my prepping or habits while pregnant.

I will keep my birth plan. When it comes time to talk about this on here, SO many STM+ will say, haha that you think you can have a plan, the baby is in control. This is true, but it is a super negative way to look at birth. You can have a plan so that you have as much control as possible to have the birth you imagine. I would have been devastated with my birth whether there had been an actual plan written out or not. You  have an idea in your head of how you'd like things to go, why wouldn't you inform your doctors and nurses of that?

Something that I will change - I MUST get a doula this time.
  • Like @EurydiceNymph I'm going to enjoy this pregnancy.  My mission is to not complain, no matter how sick I might get, as long as I'm pregnant I will enjoy it.

What will I keep the same?  I'm not sure.  I didn't really make any plans my last pregnancy and I was so young and naive with my girls that I didn't even know people MADE plans.

  • Change: I ate like crap and didn't work out. I still didn't lose all the extra weight from my first pregnancy so I do not want to gain a ton on top of it all. I'm in a wedding in May so I do not want to be huge.

Keep: I went into delivery with not much of a birth plan. I accepted things as they happened and therefore didn't have huge disappointment that a certain thing didn't go my way.

  • This time I want a natural water birth. I'm going to plan better for delivery and ask more questions. We're going to CD this time. And after looking through a Babies R' Us catalog I can say that we won't be buying all of the paraphernalia this time around. We know what few things we actually used and what we didn't. Most of what we did use we saved.

Tips on what not to buy? I can see this happening to me!

  • Change:
I really don't want to tear like I did last time but I don't think there is much I can do to prevent this esp if I have a big baby.

I hope to at least take walks daily.

Stress less about labor since I have gone through it and know what to expect.

Insist on listening to music during labor. Forgot last time and the tv was on and a show came on while I was pushing about babies being abducted. The ob actually asked someone to turn it off.

Leave the hospital as soon as they will let us.

    Keep:
Prob get epi again and just like last time wait until I need it. 7/8 cent.

Bf and hopefully the beginning will be a little smoother.

  • Same:
    - I'll have another c/s.  DD was breech so I had a c/s and a wonderful experience at that.  I have no desire to try for a VBAC so another scheduled c/s is fine with me.
    - Gain roughly the same amount of weight.  Being a plus sized mom, I was really aware of weight gain and I ended up only gaining 9 lbs and I had a 9 lb 5 oz baby.

    Different:
    - I will try my best to be less frightened/ worried.  DD is my rainbow baby so I feel like we spent the majority of my pregnant with her fearing what could happen.  We are making a conscious effort to remain positive.
    - I will be more committed to breastfeeding.  I had undiagnosed DMER w/ DD that really hurt our nursing relationship.  I know more now so hopefully I will be more successful.

  • Change: This is after baby comes, but I want to worry less and enjoy the baby more. DS had Colic and spent most of the day and night crying... And so did I. I felt so terrible for him but I didn't solve anything being a crying mess. I'm hoping that doing this for a second time will help me to relax and enjoy it a bit more. I wouldn't mind a shorter labor this time around, either! Keep: Med-free birth, exercise and being active through the whole pregnancy.

    Change:
-I want to work out throughout my pregnancy this time! I have never done it because I seem to bleed a fair amount during pregnancy and always quit.
-I want to gain less this go round
    - I want to be on the same page as my new OBGYN with a VBAC so that I don't have to fight my entire pregnancy and first 1/2 of labor. No woman should have to do that!
    - I want to enjoy this more. It's most likely our last and I want to savor everything and not worry about all the things that could happen.

    Same:
    - I want another VBAC and plan on going about it the same way
    - I want to leave the hospital as soon as I can

  • Change: I'm taking the max maternity leave possible. This will be our last baby and I really want to enjoy that newborn period because it's over so fast, and you truly only get it once with your child.

On that note, I want to enjoy being with baby and not stress so much about cooking and cleaning every day. I'm staying home to bond with my child and I intend to focus on that.

I want to exclusively BF and pump this time around.

Keep: I was walking daily my first pregnancy and ate healthy for the most part. I need to start doing both because I attributed that to my relatively smooth pregnancy, labor and delivery.

  • Definitely working out the whole pregnancy and watching what I eat! I got so fat with my last two :( not this time!!!

And I really want to go into labor naturally, I induced both kids and have no idea what it feels like to have natural contractions... no epi this time around either!!
  • Change:
I hope hope hope that I don't go two weeks late and have to be induced. (I know I any actually control that but I would so like to experience a natural beginning of labor)
Not tell most people my actual due date so people don't harass me for a whole month about "is the baby here yet?"
To which I shall still respond:

And I hope i don't have placenta previa again. That sucked. But again, not in my control.

Keep: I ate great and walked every day and I was really happy with that. I went on lots of dates with DH and I will do that again too.

  • Change:
    1. I do NOT want a repeat c/s. I plan on a VBAC.
    2. Relaxing about what foods I can and can't have.
    3. We're planning on being Team Green this time.
    4. Shopping for baby! Being Team Green will help with this!
    5. More exercise. I was thin when I had my first. Now I'm 25 lbs over where I'd like to be, so I want to stay as fit as I can.

I pretty much loved being pg with my DD, so hoping to really enjoy this pregancy as well!

  • Keep: I want to exercise throughout pregnancy. I did really well last time, this time not so much. I really need to get started, but have been so tired. I want to gain around the same amount of weight.

Change: I want to not be disappointed if I end up with another epi. Last time I had horrible back labor and was really sad I needed the epi.

I also want to hire a houskeeper. We will see if my husband agrees.
