So I was thinking (actually, trying really hard not to work)....in honor of 'Ten Things Tuesday,' what are ten things that you've learned about being a mother? Or ten things that you've learned in this past year?
1. Baby's going to baby - doesn't matter what worked for them last month/week/yesterday/hour, it probably won't work the next time.
2. It doesn't matter how long or often you vacuum, baby is going to find that miniscule crumb/fiber/dust bunny/rock and eat it.
3. Babies are fast....like warp speed fast, when they want something. This goes for grabbing said thing and for rolling/crawling/toddling away with thing in hand.
4. The weird stuff that happens to your body when you are pregnant doesn't always go away.
5. A baby can launch yogurt clear across the room.
6. A baby can easily eat 3x their weight in blueberries. Every. Day.
7. They really do notice and pick up on the littlest things. E doesn't meow at the cat. She 'trills' (for those of you with cats, you know what I mean). I guess because that's how the cat greets me when she walks in the room.
8. Pooping on a time table, like Sheldon Cooper, is a real thing.
9. They have no fear.
10. Spontaneous baby kisses are the bestest thing in the world.
1. Same as @rondokye. Except that I haven't learned it completely because I still try to do the same thing that worked last time, and guess what? it doesn't.
2. Babies learn by watching and it only takes one time. Repetion? yeah right! LO knows how to open every single thing in the house and I didn't even try to teach him. That includes the dishwasher.
3. No matter how early you start preparing for getting out of the house with baby, you will be late.
4. No matter how long it takes you to cook something fresh and biological for baby, he might end up throwing that to the floor and having nachos for dinner instead.
5. Babies prefer dad because dad doesn't impose a schedule.
6. Babies surprise you in ways you cannot even imagine. Like the time I spent my first night away and instead of a crying baby, DH had a full night of uninterrupted sleep.
7. Everything is a phase. You think changing his diaper is a challenge now, the next day it is easy again. Same goes for food, toys and even sleep.
8. Time really flies, no matter how tired I was, this first year was gone faster than I even imagined.
9. Maybe you won't be the mom you envisioned, but you will be the best mom for your baby.
10. The amount of patience you have will never be enough, sometimes you really need to stop and count to 10 to keep in going. But still everyday the patience re-fills :P

1. Going back to work was hard, made me sad, now I even though I miss my baby boy during the day I sincerely enjoy getting to eat my lunch, all of my lunch.
2. Daddy will never understand the "pick your battles" statement. Yes he has the phone, but right now I need to get dinner on the table and he is not hurting anything.
3. Babies enjoy playing with the strangest of items. Lucas, you have hundreds of toys in your room, why must you insist on playing with the broom and dust pan?!
4. The trash can doubles as a place for him to stash his toys. I think I wash half a dozen a day that find their way into one trash can or another.
5. Babies get spoiled, even by people who barely know them.
6. Food apparently tastes better off the floor than a high chair tray.
7. Rule number one of buckling a baby into a car, IMMOBILIZE! (ie- get those shoulder straps on quick before he bolts)
8. It is okay to let them eat some grass, a bit of dirt, and maybe even a piece of bark.
9. Babies are not made of glass, actually the number of times he has bumped his head have made me wonder, is it made of concrete or is he slowing lowering his IQ with each thump.
10. Nothing beats getting to childcare and having him run in to my arms for the biggest bear hug
1. All babies are different, even if the first 2 did it, doesn't mean #3 will.
2. Breast feeding and pumping sucked again....stop trying to convince yourself your body may have changed and just maybe this time you will produce milk
3. Lo tries to do everything big brother and sister do
4. Climbing anything is the most fun, especially anything that gives mom a heart attack!!
5. I've learned from 2 picky eaters to give her any and every thing...she will try anything
6. If she feeds the dog at every meal, the dog let's her climb all over her
7. Getting 3 kids ready and out the door every morning is exhausting and I haven't even gone back to work yet.
8. I relearned how incredibly messy babies are when learning to feed themselves
9. I didn't learn my lesson on rocking to sleep, doing it again for this lo, however, I have learned it will not last forever, so I am embracing it
10. I've learned no matter how many kids you have, your heart is able to grow and make room to love one more.....
1. All babies are different and develop at their own rate.
2. You are the only none who knows what is best for your child.
3. They are their own little person. They have likes and desires and they will act on them no matter how much you try to change them. Just go with it.
4. They are messy and they will also get you messy. Go with that also.
5. When they are sleeping all you want to go do is pick them up to snuggle them even though you really want them to sleep as long as possible.
6. You can get away with so many things in public just because you have a baby.
7. I only really like my own child since she is mine and I am glad to have her back after others have had their turn playing with her.
8. Nothing really matters they just needs lots of love.
9. I am not longer grossed out by spit and drool.
10. I am not a special mom who needs extra praise or someone to tell me what a wonderful person I am that I am caring for a special needs child. I am just a mom caring for her baby.
1. That I can love a whole lot more than I ever suspected.
2. Not all babies nap twice a day or once a day, or even every day.
3. Poop happens.
4. Spit up also happens.
5. All babies are different.
6. Husbands are just big versions of babies.
7. I can get by on a lot less sleep than previously suspected.
8. All new steps with babies are scary until they happen or you just do it. There is no need to be scared (feeding solids, leaving them with a sitter, etc).
9. Babies love harder than anything else in the world.
1. Some babies will have their own growth curve off the chart and that's ok.
2. Babies pick and choose what they allow you to experience. Like, they might let you hear them say dada appropriately one day and then not say it again for months.
3. Baby kisses are the best.
4. As are baby cuddles.
5. No matter how tired you are, there will be plenty of nights where you stay up absurdly late because you just can't put baby down even though they're asleep. They're just too adorable!
6. Worrying solves nothing and it won't stop them from eating things like dirt and it won't stop them from getting banged up.
7. It's ok to have to work out of the home. It's ok to quit work and stay at home.
8. People have an awful lot of loud opinions.
9. Surviving the day is just as, if not more, important than getting everything done.
10. Take help when it's offered. You never know when the next time you can get time to yourself is going to happen.
CJ086 - LOL at #6. Last night, I was trying to give E some puffs while cooking dinner. She threw a big fit and dumped all of the puffs on to the floor. When I took her out of the high chair, she happily say on the floor for 15 minutes, eating the puffs that she had just dumped. And I let her 'cause I was then able to finish dinner. I figured that the floor had just been cleaned so....
@rondokye - Lucas systematically puts everything on the floor when he is done eating, almost as if he thinks he needs to clear his plate so to speak and then get down; it is a race when I take him out of his highchair to see how much I can pick up before he eats it. When literally 30 seconds ago he didn't want another bite of any of it! On a side note, I gave him a bag of Goldfish last night to have at while I finished dinner, which as you probably guessed ended up dumped all over the floor and then he ate a couple, babies are crazy but can't imagine life without him
Oh, I am adding this one: 11. Your child will inevitably get a black eye or other large facial bruise if pictures are scheduled within the following couple days or day of. -.-
