2nd birthday party

If you are having a party, whom are you inviting? For the 1st birthday, we invited family and our close friends (none of them have kids). This year I was thinking I would invite family and a few of my sons friends, and skip our friends. I watch two children so I was thinking I would invite them because my son has gotten close with them, but I am worried that their parents might be uncomfortable because they won't know anyone else. Thoughts?

Re: 2nd birthday party

  • we only invited family to DS's 1st birthday, and if we have a 2nd birthday party, we'd also just invite family, but fewer people.

maybe one of the days you're watching the 2 kids you could have ice cream or something in honor of your LO's birthday?

I really like this idea! I did forget to mention that one of the kids' parents mentioned that my son was invited to her daughters' birthday party. Does that make me obligated to invite them?

  • you could say, "we're having a small party and only inviting family," if that's what you're doing. even if you have 1 or 2 of DS's friends from elsewhere, if the mom doesn't know them (and there won't be pictures on facebook!), i think you could stretch the truth a little.
  • We are inviting family and friends and a couple of my friends from work. About 40 people including kids and a couple of babies. Jeffrey has played with the kids before except for a couple that are a little older. I think big parties are fun if y'all are up for it!
  • If I decide to do one its going to be just immediate family. DH and I are still discussing what this consists of. My MIL always things his aunt and uncle and kids need invited because they are the only family she has left. but if we do them then we should do all the other aunts and uncles and it adds up fast. would like to keep it under 20 but probably will be closer to 30 if all the aunts and uncles need to be invited.

  • I'm debating something similar - whether to invite the four other kids from our in home daycare and their parents. We only see them in passing at pick up and drop off, but I figure we live 3 blocks from daycare, and we request no gifts at the party, so it shouldn't be a big deal for them to stop by if they want.

DD's 2nd birthday was almost 2 weeks ago. There were 10 children in attendance ranging in age from 3 babies under 3 months to a 6 year old neighbor. Including some family members who stayed briefly there were 30 people.
My suggestion is to invite the children you watch and it's up to the parents to attend or not.

  • I only ordered 25 invites so there is going to be less than last year. We have big families but I definitely want smaller than last year!

  • I just realized that if all the kids I invited show up, I'll have to feed 11 kids and like, 35 adults.

    Man.

I did not think this through.

Theme is butterflies and bugs, should be cute! Pretty excited about it. Our location is a shelter in a beautiful park near an awesome playground in town.

  • I rented an outdoor picnic pavillion for Jaxs' birthday party and I'm sending out invites today. We have invited 40 people, and if everyone shows up there will be 43 people with DH, Jax and I.

I'm excited about it, I think it will be a good time.
