Water table / Sand table?

Does anyone currently have one of these for LO? DS loves his activity table, and is obsessed with the dog's water dish, so I was thinking about getting him a water table to enjoy outside. Not sure if I'm jumping the gun though, as he only just started to stand / walk assisted / pull up. I'm also looking at maybe getting it for his birthday (he was born 6 weeks early, so it's coming up here quickly in the beginning of September).

Also, if you were going to buy a water table, would you:
a. buy a cheaper ($35) water table with some fun toys but no lid and no umbrella
b. buy a more expensive ($80) water / sand table with fewer toys but with a lid and umbrella
c. not buy one at all

  • Oh and he seriously splashes so much. He is soaking wet every time he plays in it so I recommend putting your babe in a swim suit.

  • At this point, water and sand sounds way too messy for me.  LO would be eating the sand and soaking wet so the sand would be wet and stuck to him.

  • We have a water table.  I paid $20 at Aldi for it.  No umbrella.  We just keep it in the shade or put up our shade tent.

I didn't want one with sand and water because a lot of my friends complained about them mixing.

DIdn't want sand because I didn't want to have to keep getting more after it call got dumped slowly into the yard.

  • This is the one we have.image

  • I also have a Sept baby and have thought about this except I keep thinking that he won't get to use it long before winter comes and it gets too cold for water. Also that is not coming inside for all the mess it would make. But if you decide to get one I would go cheaper.
  • Definetly worth the money but we just have the water table and DS still plays with it at 3.5. We mix the toys up all the time. During the winter we bring it in for a sensory table and fill it with beans or corn.

  • We have the Little Tikes one. Target had it on their cartwheel app for 20% off so I went ahead and bought one. We don't put sand in it yet. image

  • @jnsmith85‌ was the cartwheel deal recently?!?

I bought it the beginning of July, I'm pretty sure the 20% off is expired now :(

  • We got a water table for DD's first birthday and it was a hit for years. My parents got her a water/sand combo table for get 2nd birthday and quickly realized the combo is a mess. She's been using it as just a sand table for years though and at 5 it is still her favorite. I wouldn't get a sand table yet though, let the oral phase pass first. 2 was probably a good starting age. And definitely a cover for the sand table. Since it stays filled, you want to keep the nature out. Refill sand is cheap at hardware stores, but you don't want to clean and fill it constantly. Oh and for water table, I say keep it basic unless the attached toys are permanently attached. The fancy parts just fall off ours as soon as she starts playing and the cups and boats are what she uses most.

WHOA. I just spent the last 2 hours wondering the exact same thing myself. In the end I went with the more expensive one with the umbrella. This is the one I finally settled on (it's also adjustable!)

I have that one and a simple, cheap Step2 one in my cart on amazon right now!

    Thanks ladies!

mancila60 - I was thinking I might give him his gift early ;) We were thinking about going to the zoo for his birthday, and grandma and grandpa are already talking about some huge over-the-top gift (that I'm trying to talk them out of), so I don't think it'll be a big deal to give him his gift early, as there will be plenty of fun all around.

chelseyestelle - that is the one I was looking at! I'm glad to see Jude likes it, and it looks like a good height too!

Katiemm623 - there was a 20% cartwheel deal last week for a little tykes water table, but even with the deal it was cheaper on Amazon.

@catycate - I was thinking about using it as a sensory table too! Glad to know it works well as one.
