Anyone cloth diapering?

Is it really hard to do with twins? I was looking at some ways to save money and I thought CDing might be a good way. Any advice would be great. There is so many different brands and kinds of CD's and it is overwhelming since I know nothing about it.

Re: Anyone cloth diapering?

  • Check out the CD board for lots of info. I CD'd DD and plan to with these. We use kissaluv fitteds with covers for the NB stage, but they're not cheap. CD'ing isn't any harder than diapering, except you have to throw a load in the wash every couple of days. With twins you might be doing wash a bit more often, but that's not exactly hard.

  • We CD our triplets during the day, at home. If we're out of the house, we use disposables. We CD DS1 so were already familiar with types and had some left from him. I agree with pp to check out the CD board. We use pockets, my stash isn't large enough so we are washing at least daily. Going to be getting a few more dipes to decrease laundry frequency!

  • I used sposies with DD but am doing cloth with these boys. I was really overwhelmed at first with all the choices but after sorting through everything I think I have a good stash. Personally for the newborn stage I am doing a mix of fitteds/ covers along with Bumgenius AIO (there was a good sale on them). After that I'm doing a mix of flips and pockets (mostly Bumgenius). It seems like the resale value is the best on that brand so that was a big factor for me.

  • I used cloth for my first two unless we are out all day and plan to use it for the twins. Let me know if you have specific questions. It can feel really overwhelming but is much simpler than the info out there makes it seem.
  • We skipped the first three months, and did disposables. We are transitioning now, so we are doing cloth at home during the day. As I decide what kind I like best, we will ease in using more and more. I am finding it to be easier than I thought it would be do. Part of what helped me was just pulling the trigger and buying a few different brands. I also had a friend who uses cloth come over and help me out as soon as I got them in the mail. We looked through them all, and got them prepped. It made me feel better to get started.

  • I cloth diaper my twins full time. I enjoy cloth diapering and only spend an extra 5-10 minutes a day spraying diapers and doing the laundrey. We use Best Bottoms during the day and a pocket diaper at night. I went with an all in two system to save room in the diaper bag. We used disposables for the first few months.
  • Once you get past the learning curve, it's easy and fun.  Honestly.  We will be CDing the twins after CDing younger DS.  Older DS who's 13, I wasn't even aware of all the options back then!

I suggest researching to see if there's a CDing local group, LLL probably has a bunch that CD, and learn from them.  It will all feel less overwhelming soon after hanging around folks who do.  Pockets and AIOs are much easier but fitteds and prefolds are cheaper.  Let us know if you have questions!

  • We skipped NB stage and are still building up our stash. One of ours is in cloth (but not full time yet) and the other is almost big enough for the OS pockets we have. I've been happy with it so far.

  • I rented newborn Bumgenius AIO from a website. You get them for three months and then mail them back and they refund your deposit. Cheaper than disposable. Then we will use BumGenius AIO regs for the next few years.

We are planning on cloth diapering our twins.  Check to see if there is a store in your area that sells cloth diapers.  We have one by us and they had a class to go over everything and explained all the different types of diapers that are out there.
  • I'm cloth diapering my twins and still CD'ing my two year old.  I've found cloth diapering to be really easy.  We do a mix of covers and prefolds and Nicki's pockets for my big two year old.  The twins' one size stash is assorted covers and prefolds and the bumgenious 4.0s that my 2 year old has grown out of.

Right now for newborn diapers, we have a mix of All in Ones, and Green mountain diaper newborn prefolds with thirsties duo size 1 and rumparooz covers.  I also have a half dozen GMD workhorse fitteds, but they don't fit well yet.  My favorite AIOs so far are little joeys since they fit so well from the beginning on tiny little legs and have the cord snap down.  I also have one lonely imagine newborn bamboo AIO in velcro that I love and wish that I had more of.  We also have some BG XS that don't fit well yet because they gap around the legs.  We had a huge blow out in one of them yesterday.
