Going backwards in overnight sleep?

Second straight night my LO has barely made it 4 hours in the first stretch...last week every other day he was doing a good 6-7 hour first stretch...not sure what the deal is! Anybody else? I know he can go longer than what he's been doing!

  • Could be a growth spurt or a leap. Mine did this recently and it was a growth spurt.
  • Could have written this. I am up again for the 3rd time tonight thinking the same thing when I saw your post. She's 8 weeks.
Figures it's the first night I've had more than one glass of wine since she's been born (we fed her pumped milk) and I was crossing my fingers for a long stretch. Lesson learned.
  • Sorry, need to update signature. My LO is 8.5 weeks, 9 weeks on Friday, so yes in the middle of a leap...

I'm right there with you. It's crazy how 4 hours used to feel amazing.... And now when they get up sooner, it really kicks your ass.

I'm over the leap-- and the app says one more week, boo. I want my non-fussy sleeper back!

  • When is the leap? My LO turned 9 weeks on Sunday. I said this exact same thing to DH when I got up... We're going backwards.
  • Ugh every 2-3 hours all night. How long is this leap supposed to last? At least she slept better w the 6w spurt! And we were doing so well...
  • Same here! 8.5 weeks. Used to do 5-6 hours, now does 3.

Anywhere between 7.5-9.5 weeks, based on EDD, not actual DOB

  • Same here.  9 weeks.  We had 2 blissful weeks of 8-4 and then 4:30 -8.  The past three nights he is 8-2, and then 5, and the every hour he fusses until 7:30.

I am blaming wonder weeks for this and hoping it gets better soon.
  • Last week my LO was 8 weeks and she did the same thing. She is now sleeping 7-8 hours. Last night she slept 8.5. She was real fussy too last week and now is sleeping a lot so I'm thinking growth spurt or leap too.

  • Well mine is 8.5 weeks now and JUST started doing long stretches the past couple nights so I guess I know what to expect soon!

  • My son is 10 weeks and we had been getting pretty consistent 4-5 hours in the first stretch, but the last few nights it's been every three hours!! It's tough! Just when I thought it was getting a little easier! I hope it doesn't last too long for any of us!!
  • Are you guys feeding LO every time they wake up or trying to soothe them back to sleep? She was going 3 hrs during the day so I don't think she is hungry every time she got up last night. I'm worried about creating a bad habit. If she wakes every 2-3 hrs tonight should I assume she is hungry or is it just restless sleep? She was going 5.5-7 hrs consistently before last night.
  • Augh! It's contagious! My LO (9.5 weeks; Edd and birthday only one day apart) only slept about 6.5 hours last night (the first chunk was 4 or 4.5 like usual but she stayed awake a lot longer than normal and then only slept one more chunk - usually goes back to sleep in the morning for one more good chunk but didn't ) and has yet to sleep for more than about 10 minutes at a stretch. She dozes off on me but when I put her down wakes up in 5 minutes or less. She did that all yesterday too so just slept on me a lot in the afternoon. Along with cluster feeding. Also was up earlier than usual yesterday morning.

Is there a 9.5/10 week growth spurt? I didn't think there was. And I'm skeptical about the whole wonder weeks thing ... maybe my kid is just weird but she's all over the map with the skills listed. Already does some things listed in leap 3 but only some of the leap 2 things. .. but maybe we're in the fussy period after leap 2?

Anyway ....sleep, baby, sleep! And continue sleeping when I put you down. Please!

Yes I feed her when she wakes up. Breastfeeding on demand and she demands for sure.

  • @KellyQ116 I struggle with this as well. If LO can make it 8 hours (only twice now) then couldn't he do that every night without being fed or changed even if he does wake up? But I still just get up and feed him because he falls asleep pretty quickly and that's my only goal in the MOTN. I want so dearly to just soothe him back to sleep but I'm afraid it's going to take longer and be louder. Sigh :-<

  • Omg she won't go down tonight and I'm fearing another long evening... She barely napped today and is wired right now. Thankfully DH is having a go at it as I'm about to lose my mind. Definitely broke down and cried earlier. This is hard and exhausting. Wishing us all a better night!
  • Damn :( well remember all the possible things you can do, bathroom fan, yoga ball, etc. I've also done chamomile tea (for both me and babe).

    Hoping for a quick knockout!
