I'm about to buy a body pillow and was wondering how many of you found them to be useful.

  • I am about to buy a body pillow this time. Each time before I didn't use one. But going to this time.

  • I haven't added any pillows. I use one under my head most nights - two if I am extra congested. No belly wedges or body pillows.

We have a Sleep Number bed, though, so I have been able to adjust the firmness of the bed itself.

  • I think I'm going to hold off until I really need it.  @mandyreads pls let me know if you like the one that you get.  Thx for your input @2redtulips :)
  • Oooh I want to get a body pillow, the one I can hug and squish under me and between legs. Defo gonna start looking for it. Getting uncomfortable already even though I'm not far along
  • This Boppy wedge pillow has been wonderful during both pregnancies (and labor with DS). I usually add a pillow between my knees. This is a good alternative if your tight on bed space. https://www.boppy.com/shop/boppy-pregnancy-wedge/

  • I bought a body pillow and hated it! Because of heartburn I've found myself using several pillows to prop up my top half and another to support my belly since I can only sleep on my side :(. I'd definitely experiment before you buy a body pillow.

  • I bought one with my first PG and used it about two weeks (it wasn't cheap either!). It's now in a space bag in my shed where it's been through all my subsequent pregnancies.  I hated it because it made muscles that were just fine sore the next day.  It was like I had a crink in my neck and shoulders.

I totally confess to stealing the red lady bug pillow pet from DD#1 and it's been my go to second pillow.  Not too big but just enough!

  • hey @NeonNoon - what did you decide? I'm thinking about getting one too, because I tried the multiple pillows, but by morning they're scattered, one is on the floor, one fell down crack of bed and my husband sometimes steals the one behind my back!

  • @mdogan29  I've had a similar experience to yours.  I'm normally a back sleeper and so have been practicing side sleeping.  I tried doing the extra pillow between the knees thing but find that it makes it pretty awkward to switch sides while sleeping and the extra pillow ends up at random places.  I don't need a body pillow right now and initially thought it would make a nice pregnancy treat.  But having read what others have said, I'm likely to just end up using a small cushion between the knees like @JilliansMoma 's (daughter's) pillow pet
  • @NeonNoon - well, I've been a side sleeper for so long and already have one between my knees, I usually don't have a problem switching sides, b/c I'm so used to it now. I almost always wake up when I turn over anyway, and it looks like the late night/early morning bathroom trips have started this week as well, so that doesn't bother me... I just feel like when I first lay down my tummy is hanging down weird, like it needs support and I do feel better when I have a pillow behind my back (it never stays there though!)... so I think I'm going to try the body pillow and see how it goes. Thanks!
