Trying to Get Pregnant

Intro

Hi all, it's been awhile since I've been active on the boards and I'm sparkly new here so I thought I'd introduce myself before I join in. I'm a PE teacher, DH and I just celebrated 5 years of marriage, and we have a son who's 2 (and a half if you count that stuff). DS was a surprise, so all this planning to conceive stuff is foreign territory to me. So if I sound like an idiot...it's because I am. So this is our first cycle TTC, and my first cycle off BC. I am ovulating today actually, and we DTD 3 days, and 1 day before ovulating (sorry, don't know the abbreviation), and will today as well. I've been using OPK like a mad woman for a week straight because I had NO idea when I personally ovulate. I seriously used 3. A day, that's how crazy I was. Crossing my fingers now (and my legs to keep all the swimmers in haha) for a baby next spring or summer to make best use of my summers off as a teacher. Of course I'm freaking out because I have this dull achy pain that feels like a ruptured cyst, but hoping it's just gas and paranoia. And if there are ever any typos, I probably saw them and didn't feel like going back to fix them because I'm typing from my iPad.

Welcome & good luck! I'm TFAS (trying for a second/sibling) as well.

As far as the O abreviations... it's O-3 (three days before ovulation), O-1 (one day before), O+1 (one day after), etc.

  • Welcome.

PS- You can't know that you're ovulating. A positive OPK indicates that you *might* ovulate 12-24hrs from then, but you can have an LH surge and not ovulate. The only way to confirm at home is temping.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.

Good luck TFAS. I would recommend temping in addition to using OPKs. The newbie blog (post at the top of the TTGP page) has a lot of helpful information if you haven't seen it.

I would only recommend using two OPKs a day starting four days before you usually ovulate--one at 10 a.m. and one around 8 p.m. Temping can help you start to identify the O day (if applicable).

    Welcome and good luck!

  • Welcome and best wishes!  If you don't conceive this cycle you may want to consider taking your bbt temp and charting that along with secondary fertility signs like cf, cp, opks (read the newbie blog for abbreviation info) most of the ladies here chart using fertility friend as it is an excellent tool and sharable.

  • Welcome!  I was also going to suggest temping, but I think someone beat me to it.
