A/S and Cervical Check???

Vigorous Baby's anatomy scan is tomorrow - que freak out and intensifying anxiety over here. I cannot believe we are at this point in the pregnancy. When I first got "here" I remember seeing other ladies' A/S questions and update AW posts, and thinking if I ever make it that far it will be a miracle of the highest order. I also recall thinking that surely a person wouldn't be nervous or anxious for such an exciting day. I, clearly, am a dope. So, I think I know what to expect, but could someone(s) please give me a run down?

Also, I am having a cervical check tomorrow. What's that going to be like? How is it done? Will it hurt?

Also, #2, any good vibes, calming thoughts, happy and healthy vigorous baby well wishes would be amazing. I am freakingg out dudes. We heard VB's adorable hb last Monday and I've felt some movement so really I should calm the F down but, alas, I cannot. Help!

A cervical check usually consists of an intravaginal ultrasound and they measure the length of the cervix from the ultrasound photos, look for any openings or shortened areas, and basically make sure that it looks strong and healthy. The doc will then look over the ultrasound and give you a verbal report on how things are looking. I had my first cervical length check last week and the ultrasound only took about 5 minutes.

Sending you lots of good vibes and calming thoughts! As far as what to expect, from what I here it sort of depends on the facility. For me a tech did a very thorough u/s of the babies anatomy, including measurement of the heart, brain and other internal organs. After she was done, the MFM doc came in an reviewed a few measurements herself. The length of time for the u/s depends upon the position of baby, but it's about an hour long. Tori girl gave a good run down of the cervix check. Again, wishing you a great a/s!

Our A/S took about a half hour. It started with the transvag US to check cervix length (no pain), then switched to abdominal US and spent lots of time taking measurements and getting views of various organs/systems. She did tell us as she went along what she was seeing, pointed things out, and let us know if all looked well. Although I think that I've read that some US techs prefer to have a dr tell you after whether everything looks normal or there are any problems. Good luck!

I haven't had an a/s or cervical check yet, but I hope PP's overviews are helpful! I completely sympathize with being nervous - my a/s isn't until next wk and I'm already tensing up. I hope it goes swimmingly tomorrow!!

FX for a great scan!! Mine was abdominal - no vag cam woo hoo!! I haven't had a cervix check yet, but they did measure my cervix via US during the a/s. Go V-baby go!!!

ETA: I've been much calmer after my a/s. I hope this happens to you too.

mine was last weekend - i was a nervous wreck too, but it turned out great. (we're team pink!)

the exam lasted about one hour and the u/s tech took tons of images. he was also able to see the cervix from the abdominal u/s and said it looked long and closed.

there's not much you can do to prevent the anxiety, but i hope you're able to enjoy your appt once you're in there. ((hugs))

Best of luck! My a/s was all done abdominally and took about 30-40 min. I had to have a cervix check last week and that was done transvaginally, so I guess it could be either. Can't wait for your update!

The other ladies gave you great advice about the scan and what to expect. I didn't have anything internal done at my A/S, but something with mine did differ from many peoples... I was not allowed to watch. And it wasn't fun. The tech was new, and in training, and the woman who was "teaching" her had her turn the screen away from me. I only got one very brief peek at him when they told us the sex (which we already knew). I was upset and disappointed but I tried to ask as many questions as possible during. I hope you get lots of good pics and that everything goes awesome! I can't wait to read a happy update!
