TTC After a Loss

AW post. My appointment with the RE/specialist

Well, I had my appointment with the RE/fertility specialist today. He said that the loss was too early to have been due to the fibroids. He did an ultrasound (btw, I am so over having vaginal ultrasounds at this point, lol), then I think what he did next was an HSG - he inserted a tube that put fluid in my uterus so that during an ultrasound they could watch and get a better image of location and activity of the fibroids, I think. I was prescribed a z-pack antibiotic for prevention of an infection since the vagina is not a sterile environment during that little procedure.

Basically, it comes down to that I need surgery because of one of the biggest fibroids. It is about 6 cm and it's in a spot that would be troublesome. BUT, because he's already in there, he's gonna take the rest of them out too. While I am under, I will get a hysteroscopy (spelling???) as well. I was anxious to go ahead and have surgery if I need it because I am starting a new job next Friday (the 25) and I didn't want to have to miss work. Unfortunately, the lady who schedules the surgeries was out this week. Why they don't have a replacement for her, I don't know. So I have to wait until next week when she gets back to the office to even get a surgery date.

On my way home, they called me with more news. The doctor wants me to go on a couple months of bcp because I can't be on my period during that procedure and it's the only way to really control my cycle. And I can't have surgery until I have had my first period post miscarriage. I don't know why, but that was the last straw and I just cried and cried. I am so tired of this already. I just want a baby... and it's incredibly shitty that my uterus makes these damn fibroids that make it so hard. Ok... that's enough of the pity party. Sorry about that.

Re: AW post. My appointment with the RE/specialist

  • So sorry you didn't get the news you wanted from your appointment and have to have surgery. ((Hugs)) hun, I hope from the procedure they are able to get the fibroids and give you a plan for TTC. It blows my mind when only one person at the office knows how to do something, shouldn't they have a back up plan where someone else can schedule the surgeries.  Geesh!

  • I'm sorry : ( This whole process sucks and I know it doesn't help that ttc keeps getting pushed back. I hope the rest of your day gets better. BIG (HUGS)!
  • I'm sorry the appointment didn't go as you'd hoped. It sounds like they did a saline sonogram while you were there. I'm sorry that they want to operate to remove the polyps & that you've got to wait to have it done. My old RE only has one person that does procedure scheduling too, it's a pain when that one person is on vacay. FWIW, most people that I know who have had a hysteroscopy for polyps were able to go back to work the next day. Good luck moving forward & with the new job too!

  • Well, @beckynsean11 these aren't polyps, these are fibroid tumors. I will be having a myomectomy done with the Davinci robot. I have had this surgery once before and it took me about four days to even walk upright. After about a week, I was able to walk and drive, etc, again, but no heavy lifting, etc. My last doctor told me that I had to wait a year to try to conceive, but I am hearing it's more like 3 months to being able to conceive.

  • @jj32 yes, I do have to get on BCP because they have to be able to control my cycle to ensure I'm not on my period during the hysteroscopy so they can be sure when to schedule me. I know it's small beans, but it just seems so counterproductive. I just keep reminding myself that I got pregnant my second cycle off bcp last time. I do chart, but because they want to control the cycle, BCP is what has to be done.

@mrsjg2013 that is exactly it!!! Can't ONE thing go in my favor??? Geeeez!!!!

  • Sorry, girl. I know that's not exactly what you wanted to hear. I do think it is more like 3 months after a fibroid removal to TTC, someone on my >35 board had talked about it. I will be in that boat with you if I have another loss - causation or not a second m/c will have me insisting they remove my fibroids. I have so many the U/S tech commented on it during my ER visit. ((Hugs)).

Don't you dare apologize for being upset! We've all been there, we understand! I'm so happy that you got answers today. Yes, F those fibroids in their stupid asses, but at least you know what the next step is! You are a strong woman, and this surgery will  be the next step in a positive direction in reaching your ultimate goal.

I've had those days where everything feels like it's just going wrong, and then something else happens to set you off. It's okay to cry. You have been through the worst thing in the world, and on top of all of that you had a lot of information to take in today. Your emotions are valid, pretty lady!

I am sending you gigantic hugs and I hope that you are feeling a little better now (I know this post was from earlier).
