Eight month old won't take bottle

We have had no reason really to introduce bottles, so she's been a straight from the tap baby since birth. But now, I need to get her to take one because I'm starting school in the fall...

HOW do I do this? She hates bottles. We've tried sippy cups and she does a little better but gets a little choked up and gets frustrated. Is there any other method other than bottle? We've tried cup feeding but she just starts spitting it out after awhile...

  • When you say "we" - who is giving her the bottle/cup? If it's you, or you're home, then try having someone else feed her when you're not around. Also, see if you can borrow a few different bottles from friends - some babies are picky about which ones they'll take.

I've tried and so has my fiance. I leave the house for a bit when he tries (take a ten minute walk or something). I always come back and she's screaming and not having it.
  • I would try a straw cup or a sippy cup -- but I'd go straight to the straw cup at 8 months.

I also wouldn't stress now if you have another month or two. By 8 months, LO (though taking bottles just fine), preferred to wait 5 hours for me and nurse and drink water from a sippy cup and eat solids in the meantime instead.

Cup feeding or mixing BM with oatmeal or purees and feeding that way is also acceptable at 8 months.
I didn't even think of mixing it with purees! Good idea. We do BLW, but may have to get some purees just for that purpose :).
