Yoga Momma's, Help Us Out

Can any yogi's suggest some stretching positions to alleviate hip pain? Several times during the night, I'll wake up and do child's pose...but is there anything else that might offer more relief?

Re: Yoga Momma's, Help Us Out

  • Pigeon pose helps a ton, for me at least. It's a common sciatica pose, but it can open the hips.

  • I like to do frog legs when watching tv or reading laying down - just put your feet together and draw them close to you and just relax. It's a great hip opener

  • Pigeon, or a modified figure 4 (either in chair or on ground with your arms propping you up so you are raised up to your legs) help me. I also like triangle, frog pose (or butterfly if I don't want it as intense), and getting on all fours and kind of wagging hips back and forth- usually really slow and sometimes also moving my shoulders to make the stretch deeper and incorporate my sides which help my back.

This is a 20 minute youtube video of a lot of the poses some of the ladies have mentioned, and it talks you through with pacing and placement. I always find instruction helpful when I do my practice.
