Best Crib

So Ive been set on getting a Stokke sleeppi crib since before getting pregnant. Now I'm not so sure, its so ridiculously expensive, even with its conversions. Any advice on cribs?

Re: Best Crib

  • There is no "best" crib. Cribs all meet the same standards. There will be a difference in quality in a $80 crib vs. $800 but they are equally safe.

For DD, we bought a $150 Graco crib and it's been great. For this one we are looking at a $200 crib. I prefer to spend money on car seats not cribs.

  • Ours is a convertible one from buy buy baby. It was $399 but we used a 20% off coupon and picked it up ourselves. They said shipping starts at $75....I couldn't imagine paying that for a 4 mile drive!

  • I'm on board with PP in that I don't see the point of paying a lot for a crib.  But that's just me.  IMO, a crib is a crib.  Like PP, I'd rather put $ elsewhere, like carseat or breastpump.

I got a convertible Graco crib off of Amazon and we like it a lot.  It looks nice and it wasn't a lot of money.

  • Different cribs for different people. Depends on your budget, your house/room size, even style you want.

  • I bought our crib from Ikea. It's cute, converts and only cost $100. It's lasted 2 years for dd and will be this next baby's crib. $100 well spent! I'm glad I was able to put the extra money toward other items.

  • We were so incredibly broke and unprepared with my first. We bought a nursery set for like $250 crib from Walmart (this included the convertible crib, mattress, dresser, and a changing table, and compared to what everyone was buying I thought it was going to be a piece of poo. But... we have had it for 4 yrs so far and it's been through 2 kids as a crib and then converted to a toddler bed. It is still in good shape and are using it for baby #3 probably for the next 2yrs or so until this one is old enough for a twin bed.

Great investment for us. I wouldn't spend oodles of money on a crib.

  • We're very happy with our IKEA Gulliver. Clean, modern super affordable. I put the big bucks into a nice Storytime glider and other items that are either more important for safety or will be used for longer. And if little guys wants something fun like bunkbeds or a race car bed when he's ready for his big boy bed, then we aren't locked into an expensive convertible.

  • I bought a crib used from my neighbor for $75...I think it is a Graco Mason or Graco Lauren, and these only run about $160 new.  Since they all pass the same safety standards, I personally don't see the need to buy a really expensive one even though we can afford to if we wanted.

I have the Storytime Quinn in a solid grey fabric with a swirly texture. It's big, but we have a huge nursery, and I wanted something big enough for at least one of the dogs to join us in it! It's super-comfy and BuyBuyBaby let us use the 20 percent off coupon on it.

Thinking about getting the ikea gulliver too. I like the simple look of it And of course price. just as long as it's safe And holds up!
We don't have a baby to put in it yet, but Baby Bargains recommends it and IKEA baby stuff has to meet European standards, which are higher than US on these kinds of items :) I have seen them look rickety in the store, but I've also seen a lot of teenagers climb into the displays, so that may have something to do with it. ;)

My 2 year old used it from birth till now (2) and I never had a single problem. Not flimsy at all. I even most recently used it as the toddler day bed. I can't recommend it enough. Especially for the price.

Eta: another perk is that the second level is low to the ground. I'm short so I would have to give her goodnight kisses before I laid her down, but she is very tall 37" at 2 and there was no way in hell she could climb out of that thing. The only reason I converted it to the toddler bed was because she was almost 40lbs and it was killing my back lifting her.

I bought whatever crib mattress was sold at ikea. I think it was $70. DD still sleeps on it and it doesn't have any weird lumps or signs of wear so it's served us well also.

  • I bought the babyletto hudson. Since I'm a ftm, I can't vouch for how it actually works but I love the look and it was moderately priced and received good reviews. It's convertible so I hope to use it for a while and down the line if there's another baby someday. I bought it on Amazon prime and received it in less than a week.
