Gastroschisis birth plans?

Please any moms who had baby's with this id love your input did you have a birth plan if so how did it go? We're there things you wished you asked for and dident? Or if you dident what happened? My doctor said I should make one to stay calm and communicate but also saying at the same time thet they won't even look at it if I do?

Re: Gastroschisis birth plans?

  • No experience with this but IME most L&D nurses will look at a birth plan if presented when you check in and it is reasonable/safe.
Heck, my c/s birth plan was respected and it was unexpected (induction which DD didn't tolerate well leading to an emergent c/s to get her out)
Just research and keep it short and limit it to the big things that are really important to you.

  • I had a baby with CDH in May and composed a birth plan. They did read it and were interested in my wishes, but I also made clear that her health was paramount and should be prioritized. If you're realistic about her situation and what her birth will entail given the high risk nature, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't look at it. I was a good candidate for a vaginal delivery so mine was more preferences for labor. Key points were that I wanted to be able to labor freely without intervention for as long as possible, I wanted them to break my water before starting pit, and I wanted as few cervical checks as possible. You can also use it as an advanced directive and to name who your support people are in advance, and who can make decisions about your baby's care if you're incapacitated (if you need general anesthesia, for example).
