Trouble TTC

Blahhhhh-feeling discouraged about IUI#1

So we had our first IUI on Saturday, 7/12. DH original SA showed count of 21mil but 33% motility so we were feeling good about IUI. Got there on Saturday and the nurse told me his numbers were suuuuper low, only 1mil pre-wash and 500k post-wash. She said to schedule a re-consult with RE bc with numbers that low we may be able to move straight to IVF.

I am trying to remain positive and know that it 'only takes one' but with his numbers being so much lower than the SA freaks me out!

I had 2 mature follies, so hopefully one of those 500k got to one of them!!

Now for the 2WW.

Ps.so glad there's a group like this. It's nice to have people who can relate!

Re: Blahhhhh-feeling discouraged about IUI#1

  • I'm so sorry! That's a big change in numbers.

Has YH seen a urologist? With such a sudden drop, I would want to get more thorough testing and see if there is a treatable cause. If he had IUI-worthy numbers recently, I would really want to know what happened and if there was a solution before choosing IVF. I'd kind of wonder, what if his numbers are randomly back up when we're doing ER?

  • @BunnyBerry‌ he hasn't seen a urologist yet because his original SA came back borderline normal. Our RE have him a 'good' prognosis so we were thinking maybe this whole journey would be short. Wishful thinking! We have our re-consult scheduled for next week, do we will see what RE has to say and go from there I guess. I really want to know, though, why the heck his number dropped so drastically. It was hard walking into the IUI with so much confidence and such a positive outlook and walking out feeling discouraged and negative :(
  • I'm sorry about the numbers but I will wish you GL on the cycle anyway.  FX for you!

  • Sorry, my DHs numbers aren't great either. They keep telling me it only takes one. My DH is getting another SA to see if there is an improvement. I agree with rainbowbridge14 it could have been a fluke that day. Good luck in the 2WW.

  • Sending lots of baby dust your way!! I had my first IUI on Sunday the14th. It was the most nerve racking day of my life. Try to stay positive. Great to know there is someone in a similar boat. :)
  • Wow!  We are the exact same.  DH original SA was 23 million.  We went for the IUI and it was 400,000 post wash.  My RE is on vacation and we are heading out on vacation this week, so the plan is another IUI in case that was a fluke, then moving on to IVF if it doesn't work out,

I get what you mean about not feeling hopeful. I felt like even doing IUI was a waste of time with those numbers.  Good luck, hopefully we're the minority that gets pregnant given the chances.  FX!
