Re: Random Poll: "Eating" vs. "Drinking?"

  • most of the time i would say "tessa needs to eat" but sometimes i tell kiddo "tessa's drinking her milkies" (ridiculous name, i know....  it's leftover from his word for breastmilk at a year and a half).  drinking is only said in that exact phrasing.  anything else is eating or nursing.

  • I use both. But I agree with the above poster, you will never here me using the word "feed". It sounds so carnal. I also get grossed out when there is a "spaghetti feed" or "pancake feed" advertised. Like, could you make it sound any more like a bunch of people lined up at a communal trough, stuffing their faces. I'll pass.

  • I don't like the word 'feed.' It makes me feel like a trough. We typically say 'nurse.'

Hehe, I say "milkies" too.   I blame my mom and my sister...everything has -ies at the end.  Whoopsies!
  • Needs some noms. Teehee @MLC912. I love that one!

  • My DS calls nursing "noonoo", so I usually say it's time for baby to have his noonoo. When I talk to adults I say he needs to eat or nurse.

I always say I'm feeding the pig. When DS is nursing I will say " here pig pig pig" he loves it and cracks up every time.

    I hate calling them "feedings".

But I'm SS: if she's nursing, she's eating. If it's a bottle, she's drinking. Same stuff either way, but I call it different things. Never realized it until the poll though.

  • We EBF and I say, "Jack needs to eat," or "Time to feed/nurse Jack."

I don't call them "feeds." I hate that term.
This exactly. I even have a Jack!
  • I say "she's getting hungry" but I also say "she's drinking her bottle" so I guess both.

SS because we say both. I also hate calling it a "feed", makes him sound like livestock.
