Climbing out of crib!

Help! My little guy started climbing out of his crib! I'm terrified he'll climb and out and fall on his head or I won't hear him and he'll be roaming the house. He's only 17 months old so he's not ready for a toddler bed. I don't know what to do.

Re: Climbing out of crib!

  • Turing it won't help because the sides are the same height as the front... he uses the side to climb out too. He's a stinker!

  • This is my worst nightmare. So far DS hasn't even attempted it as far as I know. But once he does we'll convert it to the toddler bed and kid proof his bedroom even more and put a baby gate at his bedroom door. I'd stare at the monitor all night if I thought he'd crawl out and hit his head.

You just might have to switch him!

  • We actually bought a toddler bed recently because it was on sale. We didn't plan on using it yet though! Maybe it's time to set it up... I think I'd feel more comfortable though spending the first few nights on his floor in a sleeping bag though. I know, I'm crazy... but he's just so young yet!
  • My plan is to just really kid proof his room, I'll take out a short shelves and everything off of it and move his humidifier to the dresser....oh and I need to figure out how to lock his closet doors. Then I'll just put a baby gate outside his door so he cannot get out to the entire house if he wakes up.

  • He still use a sleep sack for DS, so he hasn't been ABLE to attempt it yet (I have no doubt he would have a long time ago if he didn't have the sack on his legs). He seems fine with the sack (he can still stand and walk around in it, just not lift his leg high enough to climb).

My little guy is like @PrivacyWanted's, he would not sleep in his crib so we moved him to a bed.

We co-slept for a long time, but transitioned him to a bed on the floor (a queen just because that's what we already had in the spare room) a few months ago. We put up safety rails on the sides so he won't fall out, baby proofed the whole room, and gated off the hallway so DS can walk from his room to ours when he wakes up but doesn't have access to the rest of the house. He's just now starting to sleep in past 6:30am and it has been so great!
  • We use a sleep sack to hopefully prolong this issue. Have you tried that? Our LO sleeps in the zippy. My SIL had this issue and recommended it bc it worked for them really well. Their LO even slept 2 more hrs in it which was a huge plus!
