  I call dd monkey, monk and monks. Primarily because she's a climber and curious. Would've never thought about someone being offended.

  I've called my ds1 monkey since he was born and Turkey lips. Yes, turkey lips!! Cause we all know turkey's have lips. There for a while I had stopped and he reminded me how much he missed it and loved it when I called him turkey lips lol.

  yes, monkey is a "racial slur"..but only if you use it that way....i have no problem with anyone calling their babies monkey........but i've been called monkey a couple times in my life by dickweeds in the past, and i specifically do not call my kids monkeys because of this. i know, it's sad that i'm letting those people change my life..but...that's what happened. racism hurts, even when you're 10 (the last time i was called monkey).

  I have called DS spider monkey because of the way the climbs up and down me. I never thought twice about it myself. I'm with everyone else - intent is what really makes the difference.
