What temperature do you keep your houses set for during the day and night?

Right now we have it around 75 during the day and 72 at night, but before the baby DH and I always had it closer to 69/70 at night....but that ends up with DD being cold even if she is in her swaddle and sleepers (mainly her face and hands/arms will be really cold because she hates her hands being wrapped up.) But, then DH and I are hot. Are we just going to have to suck it up and deal with the warmer temps? I'm sure once swaddling stops and she is just in her sleeper she will be even colder? Or am I missing something on that front?

I was told 72 daytime and 70 night is fine and just give the baby one more layer than you use. Maybe make sure there isn't a vent blowing directly on her at night? Our nursery is oddly the coldest room in the place, and we just shut the vent most of the way. If we put the bassinet in our room at first, I would just redirect the vent that blows where it is. Also, are you using cotton or fleece? You might be able to change out the layers you're using if she's legit cold and you can't alter the vents. Maybe a cotton sleeper and a fleece swaddle? I wouldn't give in to "just suck it up" quite yet.

we keep it 70/71 all day. DD's room was the coldest room in the house, but between her pi's, swaddle etc it was fine. We closed the vents in her room so there was no direct air blowing on her.

Pretty sure I would die with it that hot at night in addition to the PP hot flashes. Ours is anywhere from 70-74 depending on the time of day, with ceiling fans adding additional breeze.

We don't have central air so during the day it's however hot it is with fans and windows open. At night I've been putting our window a/c to 68 or so.

Are you sure she's actually too cold? Young babies have poor circulation in their hands, so they often feel cooler even if the baby is fine. If you have her dressed well and she seems content, she may be fine with the temperature even if her hands feel cold.

We keep it around 77-78. Our apartment is small and mostly tile, so it cools down quickly. We also have a stand fan and overhead fan in our room. We'll follow LO's lead as far as temp control and what makes her comfortable.

@iris427‌ Maybe she's fine and I'm just paranoid? That would probably make more sense..... ;-)

@sxymamakat‌ Now that I look at it, the vent in our room is right above her PNP so I wonder if that's what's going on. I may have to try to get creative and see if I could try to block the air, or make DH trade me sides....which I know would throw me off. I have it right next to my side so I don't have to move much to grab her for MOTN feedings/changings

This post gives me major anxiety. I have always been a very warm sleeper. I sleep with the window open in the winter when it's snowing and DH has woken up under everything including the fitted sheet!

Right now I can't sleep if it's over 66 and I sleep with just a sheet and a fan blowing on me. I am going to die if I have to sleep or try to sleep with it warm. Any advice? Seriously. ..I'm at a loss. My mom has been on me to deal with it warmer but I get so miserable.

72 usually, but I have the vent in baby's room closed so it's a little warmer. They do sell plastic vent covers that have a little angle to blow the air in a different direction. I don't know where to get them, but we have them for patients' rooms at the hospice home I work in.

Our house is generally around 72-74 during the day and we also closed the vent in LO's room and at night we keep if around 70-72 we just add an extra layer to baby and socks !

I'd say that, if baby seems cold, add a layer. I would have to turn the heat on to keep it above 68 in our house. We live on the coast, where we don't see outside temps over 85 (on a rare "hot" day).

We put baby in either footie pj's or those long night gowns. Both have the flip over fabric for her hands. In the night gowns, I add socks. Then we swaddle and wrap an additional blanket around her swaddle.

Our central air stays at 70. It did with DS. My husband is extremely hot natured and this is our happy inbetween. If I thought DS was cold as a baby I'd add an extra layer. When I read things about SIDS it always stated a house around 68-70 degrees was good at aiding in the prevention. So that's what we always did. I also always read that good air circulation was important at reducing SIDS. So for DS1 we kept a fan over his bed all year long and when we moved him into his big boy room he has a ceiling fan. Our new house has a ceiling fan in every room, so I'm excited we won't have to have a lil clip fan on LO's crib this time.

We keep ours between 69-70 for the same reasons

Ditto the others that heard that you should keep a house around 68-70 because of SIDS - that's what I have always read. This thread about keeping the house warmer for the baby confused me, because it's the opposite of what I thought you were "supposed" to do.
