The Poop!

It actually wasn't too bad.
 On a scale of 0-childbirth, I'd put it at a pooping-out-spicy-food level.
And more like a "jalapeño" spicy than a "habanero" spicy.

 Thanks for the pep talk!
And now poop has its own thread!!!!

Lol, @Raclla. We eat a lot of Hispanic food at work. We had to ban habaneros because of the after effects.

  • I'm so glad you started this! I've been dreading the after poop... I don't like spicy foods at all....so pepperoni is spicy to me. I hope this is no indicator of how awful my first poop will be ;)

Do what everyone was mentioning: colase, miralax, etc.
     And drink plenty of water!

I eat all the spicy!!! All of it!

I've never really paid attention to a poop difference.

    I will now.

Also, I saw @mhbraymer mention it in the other thread, but how does the "not able to pee" thing happen?  Is it a swelling thing?

I had trouble peeing right after birth. I guess everything was swollen. I'm sure the catheter had something to do with it.

Once I went the first time it was fine.

  • Maybe I'll just get a colonic. Lol seriously though the after birth shits are the worst plus for me I seem to be always constipated no matter how many stool softeners I've takin. I've always had the rabbit pellet poop.

Ahhhh no! I'm scared. This is me. I've been on Colace, Miralax AND magnesium citrate for so long now and still not "regular" There is literally nothing else I can do....I'm nervous! :/

  • I don't remember my first post partum poop as particularly horrible. Certainly not any worse than all the other trauma my pelvic region had just experienced. I think it was more painful than usual but by no means hellish or memorable.
  • Considering most of my poops this pregnancy have been pretty tough I think it can't be to much worse!

As for the spicy, how would you rate on Indian food level? We eat a lot of that and I notice a big difference between a 10 and a 2! At least I did pre-pregnancy

  • Am I understanding this correctly, you have to pee after birth or you get a catheter?!

My pp poop plan - Colace, fiber one bars, room temperature prune juice, and lots of water. Worked great last time and it seriously was not as big of a deal as people say it is. Drinking the prune juice at room temperature is key.

  • This can vary a lot. With my first I took the iron pills so I was fairly constipated...but it was more the mental. The muscle action was so similar to the birthing of my DD (I didn't ever push on purpose) that it was traumatizing...it was like my mind thought I was giving birth again.

With my second I used Floradix instead of the pills, so I wasn't constipated at all. I also had pushed on purpose with her birth.  The first poop with her was a nonevent, even though I had been dreading it. I'm not sure what made the difference, but it really can vary.

I don't know about everyone else, but I had a c-section.  I had to have the catheter for that.  Then once they removed it, I had to pee on my own within 6 hours or they would have reinserted it.

Same, but I had no problem peeing after it was removed. They had to measure the pee the first few times too. It was SO much. I had no idea that much pee could come out of me at one time but I'd had an IV with fluids for over 24 hours.

  • I do not really comment on this, because I had the complete opposite in regards to poop.

Peeing....yes that was painful for a bit. I was very swollen even though I had an emergency c-section.

  • I think my first pp duce hurt worse than childbirth... Maybe it will be better this time? You have given me hope! :)

  • Mine wasn't too bad. Not even spicy. I just squinched up my face and prayed, and the worst part was the cleanup. Take the colace, eat your fiber, and have some moist wipes nearby.
