Trouble TTC

Does anyone else do these crazy things? (BFP's mentioned, not mine)

So one of my mom friends mentioned a Chinese gender predictor that's online ...it takes into account the day you conceived and your age to predict what gender your baby will be.  It wasn't even accurate for 2 of my friends who tried it out before they knew what they were having!  But still, each month (especially since starting IUI's) I plug in my info.  Today I just did it for my current cycle and Ta-da!  I'm having a girl  ;)  So silly and totally jumping the gun.  And yet I can't stop doing it!!

I also stalk a site on twoweekwait.com (https://www.twoweekwait.com/bfp-by-iui) that gives IUI success stories.  I get so happy when I read new stories of women who've been trying and end up getting pregnant by IUI.  Anyone else look at this site too??

Hmm what else .....Oh yeah, another habit I have is looking for "signs".  I play this bizarre mind game with myself.  For example, I'm waiting for my husband to come home so we can go out to dinner together.  I think to myself "OK, if he gets home before 7pm ...that's a sign from beyond that this cycle will be a BFP."  So so silly and ridiculous.  And often makes the 2WW worse!  When I don't get the right answer (i.e. My husband gets home AFTER 7pm and my hopes are crushed), I actually get depressed which makes no sense at all!

Anyone else have similar stories of crazy behavior to share??  ;)

August 2014 - MRI done which revealed 2 fibroids: a 13x15cm fibroid as well as an 8x7cm one.  Super freak out mode over surgery plan.  OB-GYN/surgeon said surgery would most likely have to be a laparotomy (open abdominal surgery)
August 2014 - After a 2nd opinion, plan to take Lupron x 2 months to shrink fibroids then laparoscopic/robotic myomectomy.  Surgery date is set for Nov 21st!
November 2014 - Robotic myomectomy done (2 large fibroids removed, mild endo found).  Benched x 3 months

Re: Does anyone else do these crazy things? (BFP's mentioned, not mine)

  • Yes I do these things lol. I also look at EDD for my cycle... I frequent countdown to pregnancy its terrible. According to the chinese calendar on TB I will have a boy for the rest of the year if I conceive lol. I already told the hubby that if I get pg then it will be Twin boys. I have stuck to this story the last few months. I just know thats whats going to happen! lol He thinks I am crazy for doing all this and thinking these things but I cant help myself!

  • Lol some of those are pretty funny! But I'm sorry it makes the 2WW harder for you. :(

Most of the time, I am a glutton for anything baby related. I wish pregnant friends and new moms would tell me all about it. It's like before I got married, all I wanted to talk or think about was weddings and marriage. I had a secret stash of Pregnancy magazines that were sitting out at the GYN's office a while back but finally recycled them to save space. I work on baby names at least weekly. And I "window shop" online for maternity clothes, baby stuff, children's books (which I often end up buying - somehow I find they are easier to rationalize), and children's toys. I plan out future homeschooling, and the latest hobby is coming up with a dozen amazing ways to turn a little basement room into a dream playhouse.

Before meeting DH, my life plan was to teach for a couple years and then stay home with kids until they were out of the house. Sometimes it really feels stifling to live this life as a career person that does not match who I am.

The one thing I find hard to do, though, is focus on EDDs, only because I realized how much it hurts when another year, another holiday, especially another Chinese zodiac animal (don't believe any of the mystique around it, but it's an important part of DH's culture) goes past. By the way, there are some really sucky Chinese zodiac animals coming up! Can't believe all the great ones we've missed. I was sure we'd have a Tiger baby at least.

Like you, I definitely find myself playing the game of trying to equate things to whether or not I'll be pregnant. I start convincing myself that being hopeless will help, then I start to think that if I give up it won't happen. As if our emotions on the matter had any bearing to whether an egg fertilizes and implants!

And like you, I do enjoy reading success stories - at certain times. But only when I choose to go searching for them. I enjoy blogs by SAIF women.

  • Thanks for sharing girls!  It helps to know I'm not the only one who has these little "quirks" that come with each fertility cycle.

@Autumray - I do EDD too!  This is one of the ones I wish I could quit most because of how disappointing it's become when I realize that that month won't be it.  But somehow each cycle, I have a fresh wave of hope and I look up my EDD all over again.

@AlaskaDee23 - LOL, that is some amazing planning!  ;)  I definitely have never thought about things in that much detail but I think it's cool in a way that when you do get your BFP you will already know how you want to handle things (because you've thought about it so much).  I have FX for your cycle 23!

@nmccombs11 - I absolutely overanalyze every little symptom.  I definitely feel you on that!  Now you're making me want to go on Pinterest and create a (secret) board .....

@Bunnyberry - I think it's hilarious myself!  I actually don't look at maternity or baby stuff because that feels too painful for me.  But then I can't stop doing the EDD thing each month (even though it hurts!).  I haven't looked into what Chinese Zodiac signs are coming up!  Maybe my baby will be a monkey like me (no idea what year that will come next).

  • I definitely search EDD at several points throughout my cycle. I then think about what month we would tell people we're expecting, when I might start showing, how the EDD works with the school year (I'm a teacher).

I *don't* think about names, look at or buy clothes, etc. That's too painful for me.

Sadly, I can tell you that my EDD for the IUI cycle I'm in is the last day of spring break, so (if I gave birth on my due date), I'd have a paid week off before my EDD and could reasonably not return to school for the rest of the year and my maternity leave would extend into the summer. That is *way* too much thought to have put into this at 2 dpiui. :-P

I can relate to soooo many of these!

FWIW @EastBayBride508‌ my mom did the Chinese gender predictor for all 5 of her children and it was accurate every time! I'm sure it's just coincidence but cool anyway!

I am oh so guilty of looking up my EDD. But, honestly, after years of TTC, I can pretty well calculate it in my head. The online calculator I use always gives you the option for calculating from the "day you conceived" but has a little note that says, "few women know this for sure."
    Not in our world, bitch!

I have never bought any clothes, because that seems too painful. DH and I talked about names when we first started trying but now I don't even think about it. One step at a time....
I'm also guilty of overreacting to symptoms. If my nipples aren't sore by 10dpo I totally write off a cycle!

@lebradford‌ I'm right there with you! I think we have talked about this before. Late spring babies make for prime time maternity leave! FX this is it for us!

  • I always look up my EDD. I almost didn't do it this cycle, because I don't have any real hope it's going to work (I'm really just waiting to start my IVF protocol at this point), but then I caved and did it anyway... because you never know!! I also look at name websites, etc. I've never heard of the gender predictors but I may have to check that out sometime.

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).
