Choking = Horrifying

LO had a choking incident tonight at dinner. He did now chew watermelon and cantaloupe and that appeared to be the culprit. The look on his face was so panicked. I could see him trying to gasp for air but nothing happened. He may have a sore back tomorrow as I slapped him so hard to budge it. It came out fairly quickly. DH was outside cooking on the BBQ and could not hear my screams for help.

It all happened so quickly and it was over quickly too. I got a lot of cuddles at the end and he was very clingy until bedtime.

Very thankful for the CPR class we dud and hope that was the first and last time I have to use it

How terrifying! I hope to never have to use the stuff I learned in the CPR class but am glad I took it because things happen.

I'm glad your ds is okay and hopefully will be better about chewing going forward.

Oh how scary! We have had that happen with apple. It is so very scary. Big hugs mama I'm glad he's okay, and great work saving your son.

That must have been so scary!! I had to take CPR for healthcare providers for a job and they told us it was very difficult to slap too hard. You did a great job, mama!!

We had to call 911 a few weeks ago when DS1 fell on the deck and passed out. He was 100% okay (doc said the screaming is probably what made him lose enough oxygen to black out for a sec), but that time before we got to the hospital was beyond scary. These LOs don't get how they scare their mamas when they aren't careful!!

(((Hugs))) so scary! A had an incident with ground beef a long time ago....she vomited before I got my hands her and that helped her get it out.

Everyone should take CPR classes (and stay current!) you never know when or who might need your help.

I agree about taking infant CPR. Many years ago I saw a small child choking on a piece of tiny piece of apple and someone dislodging it by hitting her on the back. It seemed like an eternity until she expelled it.

That's terrifying. I'm so sorry you had to go through that but glad everything turned out okay. We had to do that with E twice when she was little. I'm still a little paranoid about it.

I am ok now. DH went out and brought me a fancy Belgium beer to relax after it. I am now planning a refresher course with another Mom friend. Her DS choked on a blueberry the day before

Yikes! This reminded me to sign up for a CPR class stat! I wanted to take one while pregnant and it got canceled and now I keep forgetting but what you went thru is my fear and I wouldn't have known what to do.

I know how you feel... DS choked on a piece of my homemade scones on NYE. I had taken CPR classes before and I was a medical professional, but it was still the most horrifying thing to witness. I ended up telling DH to call 911 because I was so scared. Of course, by the time they arrived (which was only a few minutes), DS was totally fine and was wondering what the fuss is. It's been 7 months and I still haven't reoffered DS any scones.
