Looking for someone to talk to. 2nd IUI scheduled for Wednesday!

My wife and I have been ttc since last summer. We found out I had PCOS so they put me on metformin and wanted me to go back four months after starting meds. I kind of dragged my feet about it and finally started being serious about it in April. After all the appointments we finally did our first IUI on May 31st but it didn't work so now we're on to the 2nd IUI on Wednesday. I feel so different about this one. The first time I was so ready and positive and this time I am more apprehensive. Anyone have any advice? Should I be so worried? I have one really good sized follicle. I just can't get the negative feelings to go away this time. Maybe after the IUI is done I will feel differently.

  • The ttc process can be an emotionally tolling process for many.  I would do your best to focus on the positive and educate yourself as much as possible.  I felt like the more information I had the better I felt about the process.  Good luck and try and stay relaxed :-)

There is a TTC check in on Mondays that would probably be helpful to read thru and get a lot of information that way too

  • @Rebeckbec I just had my first IUI yesterday so I'm somewhat in the same boat as you, we've only really started actively TTC this year. Its a bundle of emotions for sure!

  • I had my first IUI on May 31st.... I was hungry all the time right after and all I wanted to do was sleep. We cheated and did a hpt before the blood test. They were both negative so this time I am way more apprehensive about getting my hopes up. But we did the trigger shot tonight and go tomorrow. I just hope it works this time. I hope things work out for you. It definitely is a lot of emotions!

  • Thank you. IUI #2 was a little bit different but seemed better than the first. I am still hopeful but not getting my hopes up as much as last time!

  • We had four IUIs but the process took almost a year. We had setback after setback and it really took an emotional toll. It got harder and harder to be positive. The last time I was over it and decided we would be done after this last vial b/c I just couldn't do it anymore. It was also a very difficult IUI and quite painful. You never know. But as a PP said, this site is great for celebrations, support, advice, and everything in between. My wife and I are wishing you the best of luck

  • Out first IUI didn't take and we were disappointed, but I really think it might've been my innards being somewhat confused, all "whoa… so *that's* new. ;)

The timing this time was a little different (started Clomid on day 4) and I think they were more certain about when to do the trigger. Voilà! I'm now 6 weeks.

It's easy to feel a lack of control in all of this, especially for your wife who really might be feeling disconnected. If you just both support each other and relax, your RE will make it happen. She's had tougher cases, for sure!
  • LOL I had the same feeling about the unfamiliar specimens swimming in there! I am glad it worked on your second time! Congratulations! The two cycles were definitely different for me too. So maybe this cycle worked. Did you do your IUI the next day after trigger? I have read that some people do it up to three days after. I did my IUI the next day both times.

My wife is awesome! She has gone to every single appointment I have had. I think the nurses like her more than me! She is very funny and I am definitely more serious. But I really don't think I could do any of this without her! I want her to be involved as much as she can.

  • I totally understand the frustration and emotional part and we only, just did our first IUI this past Friday.

Issues with where to have our ultrasounds done, if we could or couldn't get our meds through my pharmacy here. Was a weeee stressful.

Speaking of trigger shots.... I did mine Wednesday at midnight and the IUI was done just before noon Friday. So my clinic does the full 36 hours after trigger.

I have heard so many different timings by different clinics, so it makes me nervous that the IUI was done too late.

The only thing I'm confident about is the donors swimmers. The doctor told us there was 12 million. I questioned that number later that night when I was talking with the wife, but she said I heard right. So at least we know our donor has lots and hopefully good swimmers. Haha

My wife is the joker too.

  • LOL :-) I hate that there are so many variables to consider! It's so hard waiting! I haven't "felt" anything... well besides fat lol! I've gained a few pounds since the iui which is awful because I'm already a bit overweight!

I hope your IUI works for you! Go swimmers!

  • The progesterone *kills*. I can't find where I read it, but in some women it causes is to gain up to 5% if our existing body weight. (This is for women taking the progesterone supplements for multiple cycles, etc.)

I did the trigger on a Tuesday night, then IUI Thursday morning. So there's clearly some wiggle room.
  • OK well that is good information. I will definitely have to be better about what I've been eating! I hate the 2ww. I just want to feel something!
