High-Risk Pregnancy

Is my blood pressure too low?

 Not sure about this..

Just checked my blood pressure.. its 106/60.. that's after running around shopping at the grocery. Is that too low for 1st trimester?  I have been feeling shaky.. but could just be from being nervous about miscarriage.
Going to post this on several boards cause I am worried about it.

I have always had low blood pressure and not sure if that will be bad during pregnancy. One time I was rejected for donating blood because they told me it was too low and would be too dangerous. Needless to say that freaked me out.. then they took my pressure again and it was high enough to donate, lol.

  • It's best to ask your doctor's opinion on something like this. However, that's within normal range for most people.

  • Definitely ask your doctor about where they want yours at. Mine has always been on the low side and the lowest during pregnancy I've had was 95/60 if I remember right.

Every person has a different threshold.  It's fairly normal though. Pre-pregnancy mine was generally 90/50.

At 4months while grocery shopping I blacked out at the check out.  I woke up to an ambulance and very panicked people. I had type 1 diabetes so assumed that but on wake up my levels were perfectly normal...turns out my blood pressure plummeted. For the next few months if I stood still for a few minutes my blood pressure would plummet.  It was scary, I ended up buying and wearing a wrist blood pressure reader for a few months to track things.  If I ever felt slightly "off" while out I would immediately sit/lie down and drink water.  This was awkward...nothing like being shopping and trying to pay for something and suddenly sitting down on the floor at the checkout!  But, it beat blacking out.

Anyways in the first trimester it is common for blood pressure to run lower as your body makes more blood.  Check with your doc what your safe level is.  Make sure you drink tons of water (after blacking out I was told 12cups a day minimum).  If you feel really weak and shaky sit or lie down so your body can pump more blood to the brain.

  • Measurement wise that's a nice healthy blood pressure. Ppl usually start to get concerned when systolic is less than 90. If you have dizziness, short of breath, sudden weakness then you need a doc to evaluate. If you feel ok, that pressure is a great one to have.
  • @=Lee=B I wonder if I am having the same issue.  Felt really low a couple times (also Type 1) but sugars have been fine upon doing a poke.  I tend to have low blood pressure as is so I am definately going to add it my list of questions for my doctor.  Thank you!

  • Ask your dr about this:) but I can say mine is a lot lower...80's , 90's over 40's and 50's if that makes you feel better! My dr told me to eat good protein, lots of water and rest...but call your dr...good luck

  • My B/P is usually 98/58 my Dr. hasn't said anything about it and I see a specialist. If you're feeling shaky I would try eating a little snack. Good luck
  • @=Lee=B - interesting.  I'm also a T1D and had an episode last weekend where I thought I was going to pass out.  Blood sugar was fine though, wonder if it was B/P related!
