Pregnant after 35

Anyone had a boob job? My boobs aren't growing :(

I had a breast enlargement 3 years ago. Went from AA to C cup. The implants went under the muscle an I was assured by the doctor that I would be able to nurse in future.

I am now 15 weeks with my first and my boobs are just not growing at all. Not heavy, not sore, nothing.

Could they stillstart growing later or should I start getting used to the thought that something got damaged during my boob job and I will not be able to breast feed my child?

I have not had breast implants, but I know several mothers who nursed successfully with implants. It may just be that your body is changing more slowly. Every woman's experience is different. Or perhaps the changes are just less noticeable due to the implants? I would bring it up with your doctor. I'd expect them to have some insight.

  • I haven't had a boob job, but my boobs didn't really get noticeably bigger until third trimester. I have only gained maybe half a cup size in any case. Every woman is different. I wouldn't worry.

I don't have implants either but can tell you two things:
    1. A close friend of mine who had had a boob job breastfed bith of her kids with no issues whatsoever. From what I've read online what matters is how the implants were placed, as that determines if some ducts were severed (which might make bf-ing difficult). But just because you have implants doesn't need to mean you won't be able to BF.

    2. I've always had small boobs (AA) and they never really got much bigger during pregnancy or after birth. I am now at a full A I would say, and I don't expect much more to change. With my first I wasn't able to BF 100%. We had to supplement all along. But I did what I could and gave her all the BM I could make. Not expecting much improvement this time around but at least I am mentally prepared for it. Last time it was anguish and agony until I made peace with the need to supplement. If you're able and willing to produce at least some milk that's great. If not, that's not the end of the world either. Your baby will be just fine however you decide to feed them, as long as they are fed. Just prepare yourself mentally for the possibility that BFing may not work. I felt like the whole world lied to me because everyone said that virtually everyone can BF etc. And despite trying absolutely every trick in the book I couldn't. Well at least not 100%.

15 weeks is still early to expect any significant growth - consider yourself lucky if they're not sore!  Everyone is different - some people don't grow a whole lot to begin with, and size and growth don't necessarily correlate to milk production.  I have quite a  friends who didn't increase in cup size while pregnant, became engorged after delivery, and actually went back down to their normal or near-normal size after only a few weeks of nursing, but they continued to nurse for up to a year without any issues.

I haven't had a boob job, but my boobs didn't look noticeably bigger until 26 wks or so & I'm almost 28 weeks right now. I'm normally flat-chested (AAA, most places don't even make underwear for me lol). I also haven't had boob soreness or anything like that. One of my boobs can fit in an A cup now. The other one is probably AA. lol.

Sometimes you can't really tell if you'll be able to breastfeed until you try. I have friends who weren't able to bf at all because of issues that arose after delivery that weren't related to boob size.
  • Thank you girlies:) loved reading your posts and leela you made me giggle :)

I'm gonna be on a boob patrol from week 20 then :)
  • Nothing to worry about. I had a boob job and was worried about the same thing with my 1st child. I breastfed him with no problems. My boobs did grow a lot while I was pregnant, but I don't think that has anything to do with being able to breastfeed or not. Also, don't worry if you have difficulty the first day or two of trying to breastfeed. It took my child two days to get the milk flowing.

  • I had breast implants taking my from a AA to a DD in 2006. I'm at 38.5 weeks prego right now and have had no growth (although I did have pain in the first trimester)...in fact since my belly is now huge they look smaller than ever!!! From all the research I've done it seems that the biggest issue would be the lack of glandular tissue prior to implants. I'm going on the "I won't know until I try" way of thinking and just hoping for the best at this point...the doc seems to think all will be fine.
  • I had boob job, two actually. Pregnancy with DD, I had saline under the muscle. They grew to clown size almost immediately. They hurt like an MF. I successfully breast fed for 18 months..... I popped a flat about 18 months ago and had to have them redone. Still under the muscle, this time silicone. They are rapidly approaching clown size again & hurt constantly. My surgeon (who did both) said I shouldn't have any issue BF.... I look like an idiot. I'm now in a 34DDD. I'm also 5'2 and about 105. I may join the circus. :)

  • I have implants. I got them about 4 years ago and I got them under the muscle. My boobs were sore in the beginning of my pregnancy but are not sore much anymore. And from one day to the next they feel huge and then not bigger at all. Try not to worry too much.

  • I'm thinking about getting mine done after my pregnancy and my LO has been weened. I am a 36a and I'm not happy with the size or shape of them. I would like to go up to a c cup or a d cup. I am 5'5" and 120 pounds if that helps.
  • I would talk to your doctor about it but it's probably just too early. Everyone is different. This pregnancy is my third and this is the FIRST time that my boobs have actually HURT and the first time they've been this big this early.  I don't usually see a change in my boobs until later on in pregnancy.  I'm 15 weeks also. I bet I've went up a cup size but with my other two pregnancies that did not happen until later on.

I would love a boob job after pregnancy tho!  Kids just suck the life out of mine. I've also lost weight three times and I'm sure I"ll lose weight a fourth time after this baby. After high school I lost 100lbs. Then 50lbs after my son. 60lbs after my daughter.  The combination of weight loss and nursing.. oh my. Pre-pregnancy, they're like a little sock with a stupid ball inside of them. I hate them!

  • I'm on my 4th pregnancy. My boobs don't seem to enlarge until late third trimester. I'm still wearing the same bra at 23 weeks. In fact, after engorgement ends, I am still the same cup size.

There is no way to know how lactation will work for you until the baby arrives. Don't sweat it.
