What mood does your baby wake up in?

DS1 was the best sleeper and always woke up happy and smiling in his crib, even at this stage. He would stay in there quietly until I came in and would greet me with the biggest smile...it was so cute and he was so easy. This LO is completely different. I'm still not getting long stretches of sleep with him and whenever he wakes up he's screaming his head off. How are your LO's when they wake up? Happy? Quiet? Screaming? What gives? Sometimes he will eat, sometimes he will just fuss at the boob and fall back asleep. I'm exhausted and just want him to be happy. This is so frustrating...every day from about 3:30/4:00am through 5:30/6:00am he is wailing. ETA: he is totally happy during the day, smiling and cooing and not really fussy, this is only a nighttime/early morning issue.

  • My guy is smiley or grunty if he wakes up due to pooping. He's a mellow man all day... Unless it's a growth spurt.

Is he a good sleeper? For how long is he sleeping when he wakes up smiling? I'm thinking mine is not getting a good enough stretch of sleep which is why he is unhappy.

Same question as above, does he sleep for long periods of time?

  • ^^ This. Dude wakes up starving. EVERY. SINGLE.TIME. Regardless of how recently he's eaten. It's nuts.
  • Depends on how long he slept. If he gets a decent amount he's all
    smiles.
  • For any night time feeding (12 and 3) she's waking up screaming. Then for her "ready for the day" wake up at 6am she's happy smiley and tooting lol. Then naps 8-10am and happy again. Night time she's mess...

He sleeps 10p til 5-6a then usually a morning and afternoon nap if at least 2 hours. There are cat naps also, but those are his main stretches

  • My DD sleeps from 8pm to 6 or 7am and she wakes up fussy. But she then goes down right away again until about 10am when she'll feed. At 10am she wakes up fussy too.
  • DD will fuss when she wakes up in the morning, but as soon as DH or I come in and bend over to pick her up she flashes a HUGE grin. Then she usually starts crying while getting her diaper changed because she realizes she's hungry and not getting it fast enough.

She does STTN, usually about 8 hours. During the day, though, her naps are pretty terrible and she usually wakes crying from those. So I guess it's a trade off.

  • P wakes up happy, smiley, and playful (for a 9 week old). My heart=melt.
  • Depends. My LO doesn't really wake up for MOTN feedings. He is half awake. He whines and I feed him but he never opens his eyes. During the day, half the time he wakes up happy but if he took a long nap and is hungry, he usually whines until I feed him.
  • Cranky/hangry until he eats, then very happy.

  • DD wakes up hungry but not unpleasant unless I take too long. Then she gets pretty loud and gives me the pouty lip. And she's cuddly when she nurses, which I love.

  • She has two moods. The first wake is usually fussy. around 5 a.m . The second one where we lay in bed and play she is all smiles

    It's a BOY

  • Our LO isn't STTN just yet, but he's gotten into a manageable 4 (sometimes 5!) hours then a 2-3 hour stretch. Because those are the longest periods he sleeps (daytime naps are 1-2 hours) he wakes up screaming hungry. After he eats in the morning he is very happy and smiley. When he wakes from napes he's hungry, but not angry hungry like during the night/first thing in the morning. More just fussy until there is a bottle in his mouth.

  • I feel like once he transitions to being fully awake he becomes happy and pleasant, all smiles. It's just that no matter when he wakes up whether its from naps or during the night he's always crying. I'm trying to figure out if there's anything I can do that will help him wake up happier.

I have the exact opposite of you. He wakes up like an angel smiling and cooing. Then after about an hour it's all downhill. He cries pretty much all day and had very short naps. But he's put down between 8-9 at night and sleeps 5-6 hours. Wakes to eat and then another 3 hours after that. Sometimes he will even go back to sleep around 7ish and sleep till 10. But I'm hoping the day crying is a phase. He's been this way for a week. I can't get anything done.
