how high are my chances of a second miscarriage?

Hi everyone,

Back in march I lost my first baby after 3 years of trying. I recently took a test and found out I'm pregnant again! I have a appointment tomorrow to confirm the pregnancy but I'm still over the moon! I thought I wouldn't get pregnant so quickly!

I'm now concern about losing this baby... I heard that if you have had a miscarriage in the past your more likely to have another one. does my chances of miscarriage increase?

After one loss your chances of repeat loss are no higher than a person who has never experienced a pregnancy loss. Each pregnancy is different.

Congrats on your BFP! Statistically 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. So whether you've had 0 or 5 losses in the past, your changes of a miscarriage are statistically at least 25%. Most doctors view one loss as "bad luck" and will assume you'll have a perfectly healthy pregnancy this time around.

I hope this is your sticky baby and have H&H 9 months!

Congratulations and welcome. It's so scary, I know, but unless there was some repeatable problem (and you'd probably know that) the chances really aren't any higher. This is its own pregnancy... I'm currently reminding myself of that hourly.
