Trying to Get Pregnant

Which temp would you use?

Good morning ladies.  Quick question for you.

I have my alarm set for 5:30 each morning to take my temp.  My temp yesterday at 5:30 was 96.76.

Last night I had very bad insomnia.  When my alarm went off this morning at 5:30 I had been asleep for maybe 30 minutes.  I still took my temp.  It was 96.50.  When I woke up at 9:30 this morning, I took my temp again.  This time (4 hours past my normal time) it was 97.58.

Which temp would you track?  The 96.50 with 30 minutes of sleep, but at the regular testing time?  Or the 97.58 with 4 hours of sleep, but 4 hours later than the normal testing time?

My OPK was negative both yesterday and today if that makes a difference.

If this is a stupid question, I'm sorry!  I'm new.  TIA.

  • I have, but usually within a 30-45 minute window.  I haven't temped this much later before.

  • If I look at last months chart, my 96.50 would be right on par with where I should be.  But I have no idea if last months chart has any bearing with this months chart.

I would use the second one, but make a note that it was later in the morning.

Really, one temp is not going to make a huge difference. You're looking for the overall pattern.
  • I think I would use the first one and mark "sleep deprived" in FF. It will give you an open circle.
  • Thank you all so much!

  • I would probably use the first one and just mark sleep deprived.  That one temp is going to make much of a difference in the overall picture.

This. I had to do this earlier this month.

  • As a perpetual insomniac myself I've always gone with taking my temp after my first and longest amount of sleep rather than at a specific time.  It's often made my temps a bit rocky but for me, it's always more reliable than a set time, and I have always been able to pinpoint ovulation even though I might temp at pretty different times. In the end, you have to keep in mind that the whole point of BBT temping is to find your basal temp, which means your lowest resting temp, which is what your body really only gets to after three or more hours of sleep.  30 minutes of sleep before your first temp would likely not have been enough time for your body to get to that lowest resting state, so I'd think that temp is inaccurate; your later temp, after several hours of sleep, would likely be more representative of your lowest resting temp for the night.
