Trouble TTC

Intro

Good morning!

I'm officially starting my first testing cycle as of this morning when my period showed up, so I decided to intro over here. I joined TK/TN in 2007, and I've been on TB for two years, so I'm pretty familiar with typical board etiquette. I was active on the TTGP board for a while, but for the last year, I've spent most of my time on TTCAL. I've also done some lurking over here, so I think I have a feel for how this board works.

My TTC history is in my siggy, but for those who are mobile (pregnancy and loss mentioned)...

My H and I started TTC in July 2012. I started charting/temping/OPKs right away that first cycle and was able to confirm O every month, but we weren't having any luck. I got a BFP after 11 cycles in May 2013, but my betas were really low and not doubling. It was confirmed that the pregnancy was ectopic in June, and I had laparoscopic surgery to remove it. They were able to save my tube, but in the process of the surgery, they discovered endometriosis which I didn't realize I had. The doctor removed what she saw, but the diagnosis was definitely a surprise for me. After that, I was told that my TTC "clock" started over, and I needed to wait another year before starting testing. We've since had another 13 cycles without success, so I saw a RE for a consultation two weeks ago. H had his SA last week, and since today is CD 1, I called this morning to schedule blood work and an u/s for Monday. They'll also be calling me today to schedule an HSG for within the next week and a half or so.

I'm sorry that you all have to be here, but I'm looking forward to getting to know you and picking your brains since I'm new to working with an RE.

I hope you're enjoying your Friday!

Mine was very painful, I wont lie. I was told it was b/c I only had one tube and also the whore's speculum they used, but that is neither here nor there. Just take some Ibuprofen before and bring a pad. Even if it's painful, it's over fast, so there is that.

I know. I have to. It's the one thing I'm most nervous about, but considering the endo and the ectopic, it's probably the most important test I'm going to have done.

    Thanks again. :)

  • Welcome, and sorry you have to be here.  I know everyone's experience is different, but if it makes you feel any better at all, my HSG was relatively painless.  I took Tylenol before and after because there was some discomfort when they injected the dye and I did have some cramping afterward, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.  FX that yours is as easy as mine was.

The worst part is that I was at a training hospital or something and there were like 5 technicians in there.  It's pretty awkward having dye injected in your hooha with a million people watching...

Welcome! So sorry you find yourself here. Our stories are a bit similar. Ectopic surgery which saved my tube, but found stage 1 endo. For what it's worth, I was terrified my HSG would be painful because of this and it turned out being pretty easy. Everyone is different, but just thought I'd share my story. Good luck.

@BunnyBerry, It was actually 11 months. I hadn't hit the 12 month mark yet when I got pregnant, so I was told I needed to try for 12 months without a pregnancy. It was like a punch in the gut having that conversation with my doctor. I probably could've sought out another opinion about it, but I guess I still had hope that we could be successful on our own.  It's been 13 cycles since then.

  • Hello and welcome! I'm sorry you are hear, but glad you found us. To echo others, the HSG can be painful, but shouldn't last long. I had three bad cramps (one with each push of dye) but the pain is manageable. It was kind of like the waves of abdominal cramping you might get with an upset stomach - for a moment it is pretty intense, but it passes quickly. Good luck on your test!
