fussy crying non sleeping babies?

Who has em?

I see all these posts about babies stn and even sleeping for a few hours and I'm jealous! We're still in survival mode and barely hanging on. DS only sleeps on me and only after lots of screaming and crying despite the 5 s' s and a bouncy ball. Even at night he will not sleep anywhere else. It's always on me. We have no schedule to speak of because I'm just trying to survive and figure out how to get him to sleep next. Any awake time he's miserable because he's overtired because he fights sleep.

DD was such an easy baby this is all new! And I feel so guilty I can't spend more time with her because DS is so needy. And I feel like I'm not connecting with LO as well because he's so challenging.

Just guess I needed to vent and see if anyone is in the same boat and how you're coping. I'm over hoping it's a phase and coming to think it's just temperment. Just exhausted!

  • Sorry you are going through this. No advice because im in the same boat and could have writen that myself. Except LO will sleep some in his basinet. Lets hope there is some magic advice someone can suggest. Hang in there Momma as this shall pass... I keep telling myself that.

  • I'm a lurker, but I just wanted to let you know that my daughter was the same way.  It was completely exhausting.  In the beginning I was hoping it was just a phase, but I always kinda knew it was her temperament.  It's really hard, I know.  She's still really hard (at 3), but not in the same ways and she really is an amazingly bright and creative and kind little girl.  Hang in there!  You won't be bouncing on that exercise ball forever :)

  • Checking in. My kid woke up at 345. I tried to feed her but all she did was kick at me. So around 4 I put her in her swing and got a little sleep. She woke up again around 6 or 7. Tried to feed her again and she just kicked at me some more. Put her in her swing again around 10 and we slept until 1145. Then she has been up allll day at the mall. Slept probably a total of 2 or 3 hours. Had to put her in her swing again tonight because she was in her mood again. She gets sooooo fussy every. Single. Night.

    It's a BOY

Are you formula or breast feeding? I ask because it could be colic and if LO is getting formula, may not be the right one. That's what happened to us. Also what about gripe water or gas drops? My LO will only sleep in her RNP because of her reflux. I had a fussy baby until I got her on some colic formula to help her gas.

It also sounds like the period of purple crying. Which from my understanding (from the scary video they made me watch at the hospital lol) is when they cry for long periods of time the same time each day. Hang in there! It shall pass!

I've suggested a sounds app to a few bumpies and it's worked for them. It's called Sound Sleeper. It's really amazing. Has calming sounds for babies. Mine listens to the "womb" sound while falling asleep.

@lauralou3x3‌ I'm breastfeeding and have tried gas drops. There's not really anything to suggest it's tummy related though. I'm thinking it might just be good ol colic. We do have a sound machine, but I'll check out that app. Thanks!

  • I don't have any advice but I'm sorry you're dealing with all that, it can be so frustrating.

  • Are you eating soy and dairy? My Ebf baby was the same way till I cut them out. She was doing lots of little poops throughout the day, pedi said at this point she should only have 3 or 4 bm.

  • Have you tried colic calm? The other day our LO kept just randomly screaming and we tried everything. She was so fussy so I gave her some since it's natural and if it didn't work it wouldn't be a big deal that she took it. She stopped a couple minutes later and slept for 2 hours. It must of been reflux or gas or some kind of stomach related thing. It would be worth a try. My doctor said it wouldn't hurt and if it works it's worth it! Also sometimes their digestive systems just haven't caught up so we've been using probiotics and we seen a huge change in her fussy time at night. She used to just cry from 6 to bedtime on and off for weeks and then we started those and I give them to her at night and she's been a completely different baby. We also started giving her a bath before her fussy time used to start. So since she would start around 6 we decided to do a bath at 6. This seemed to help a little too. I'm not sure about the sleep thing though as far as sleeping on you. I'm sorry but I don't have any suggestions. It's a fight to get her down too but we usually do. I just keep trying and if she wakes we start over. Eventually she gets so tired she gives in and other nights she goes right down.

@kimberlykl2009‌ I'm still eating soy and dairy. DS usually has one bm every day or every other day. Whatvare some other signs that LO might be intolerant of these?

@Hbird05‌ I'll try that colic calm and look into probiotics! It can't hurt like you said.

  • I use the gerber soothe probiotics, they are pricey for such a small bottle but I really do feel like they make a difference. They are available at cvs or walgreens.

We head a SUPER screamer but it was just a certain time of the day (evening) so I was convinced it wasn't a diet thing. I was at my wits end and cut out dairy, soy, chocolate, and coffee at the recommendation of the chiropractor. We noticed a difference in about five days. Two weeks later, a much different baby. So, our symptoms were super fussy baby and frothy stools, but every babe is different.

  • And, we added probiotics like pp noted!
  • Have you tried babywearing? My DS is cranky every evening, I put on the wrap and he is out in mins. We like the moby or wrapsody stretch hybrid

Babywearing is actually usually successful! I have to be walking though, but that's often better than a crying baby. DS hates the moby though (opposite of DD again) and is okay with the beco. I have to remember that and just deal with the July heat!

  • I'm also in the same boat, mine has reflux though. He's on Zantac and I've had to add rice cereal to my breast milk. Usually though he likes to scream and cry only at night. He also will not sleep without me, only on top of me. We've tried the RNP and have adjusted his bassinet on an incline, still no success. Thanks for all the suggestions ladies! I'm going to try the colic calm and probiotics.

Colic is stomach related. I didn't think my LO was colicky because she only fussed, didn't cry. Her pedi said all babies show discomfort differently and it's generally when their tummy hurts. That's why a lot of the colic formula is broken down and has probiotics. Hope you have a happy baby soon! :)

Green, mucousy and/or bloody stools. Also rash in diaper area or on face.

Thanks. LO doesn't seem to have this.

In other news we bought a swing and LO slept in it last night (a no-no, I know!) And we got between 2 & 3.5 hour stretches! I feel amazing. He napped a little in it today and I've been really on top of swaddling and bouncing him and he's seemed a little better today. But our super fussy time from 8-10 is still ahead of us so we'll see!

Eta: horrible night. Guess we didn't figure anything out!
