cucumber for gnawing

Lucie's List mentioned this in my most recent e-mail. LO is 6 months and teething. Anyone use cucumber sticks?

So peel them? Take out the seeds? And cut them into sticks? My fear is cutting them the wrong way.

  • That's what we did yesterday...sliced it. They also recommended baby carrots, and I thought choking hazard immediately. Oh parenting.....

We have the mesh feeders also. I'm excited about using those.

We do peeled strips without seeds to start. Once they can chew a little bit we give thinner strips. Whole pickles were also a hit.

  • We did sticks but not frozen. I guess you could peel them/seed them if you wanted but we didn't. Stick size was like 1/6 - 1/8 of the cucumber diameter if that makes sense.

  • No baby carrots unless cooked, I'd think.

Pickles are extremely high in salt. I probably would not give to a baby.

Pin a rose on your nose.

DS loved pickles as well. Unless an idiot made them with too much salt, it's fine. That was our main go to with him if we went somewhere with a buffet.

Dude. Regular commercial pickles have like 1000mg per pickle. So no, I wouldn't recommend feeding that to a 6 month old baby.

Watching salt intake =/= don't give a kid a pickle. Now if their entire diet consisted of salted cod, pickles, salt and vinegar chips, and saltine crackers you may get the side eye from me.

  • Team Give a Baby a pickle.

My girls LOVE pickles. And anything made with vinegar really. I avoid salt in most things for babies, but I make an exception for pickles.

  • We always just did whole carrots, but we also did BLW and he had plenty of teeth by 6 months.
