Breast Pump Seperate Bag?

Hey All,

I haven't seen any posts on anything like this recently, so I hope I am not repeating anything that was already asked. Please let me know if there was.

I was able to order my breast pump from my insurance and it came today. I got the Medela in style advanced starter set. I was just looking at the accessories and was wondering if any of them are worth getting. I was considering the messenger bag with small cooler. Are the accessories worth it or is a waste of money?

Any insight/advice is appreciated. Thanks

Re: Breast Pump Seperate Bag?

  • I have an Avent pump, so not quite the same, but similar. I didn't end up finding the cooler part that came with it that helpful. If I was pumping at work, I'd put it in the fridge at work and then toss them in my purse for the short ride home. If I was going somewhere else (road trip for example), I'd bring either an insulated bag or an actual cooler so that I could also bring bigger ice packs that would stay cooler longer.

I didn't have a fridge that I could use at work, so a cooler bag, or just an insulated bag with ice pack was necessary. But, you can probably just get any old brand. If it says "medela" on it, it costs more :) Also, I would double check the size of the cooler bag. I don't think it's very big.. So if you do need something for work, you might want to get your own cooler bag anyway. Edit for typos. They're probably still in there

  • My aunt gave me her Medela In Style messenger bag. I like it. It has the cooler bag with the freezer blocks and she gave me a lot of Medela bottles too. I just bought more of the tubing and rubber washer things. Obviously I haven't used it yet so I don't have any experience or any advice but it looks user friendly. My aunt loved it.

  • I bought the messenger bag and really it is not worth the money.  Any ice pack lunch box combo will work great and the bag is literately a bag that would cost 20 at target.

  • If your primary need is a carrying bag, the pump is actually pretty small so any bag or even purse would work. Find something cute that you like.

If the cooler part is necessary, my cousin found a really neat lunch bag that is just an igloo cooler type brand that is light weight and keeps ice cold for a long time. It's purse size with a zipper and holds a ton of bottles and sippy cups (she has 18mo twins and 1mo old boy) I need to ask her where she got it, I think the combo of these two are what I'm going to use even though my insurance covers the medela pisa in the bag or backpack.
  • If you are looking for a bag that is more stylish and can fit all your gear and your pump, please check out the Nurse Purse, which I came up with after I returned to work and couldn't find a great bag - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00I7J5A3I/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?ref_=cm_sw_em_r_awd_tZMWtb1SW7DCQ_tt
