Changing jobs while on leave

I delivered almost 2 weeks ago and will likely be due back to work in 6 weeks. My management team didn't handle my pregnancy very well and I honestly don't want to go back there. I should also add that this position is my first 'career' position, so there is more on the line than just a 'job' so I'm trying to tread carefully.

Has anyone resigned while on leave or shortly after they returned to work?

Re: Changing jobs while on leave

  • I left my job during my maternity leave, but I had another job lined up. What's your industry?
    My TTC History:
    2009: missed miscarriage #1 at 9 weeks (trisomy 16)
    2010: Infertility
2011: Diagnosis and treatment (low sperm count, anastrozole for DH, clomid for me + IUI)
    2012: Baby #1
    2014: Baby #2
October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)
    March 2016 BFP#5, due November 2016.

  • Human resources in health care. Small enough field that if I don't do this right I'm afraid I'll be blacklisted. So many people with HR experience/degrees in my area and they're doing other stuff, because they can't find a position.

  • Be sure to look into benefits issues from your leave--some places make you repay maternity benefits if you do not come back and work for awhile.  Also, it is always easier/less stressful to search for a job while you have one.  Lastly, unless you had been with the firm for several years and were a star performer I would not give a reference for someone who quit while on leave...I would likely give a poor reference if someone asked through a back channel.
