Trying to Get Pregnant

low BBT after O

Hi all.  Curiousity is getting the best of me.  I have been charting my BBT, mucus, and sensation for a year and a half and have been TTC for 12+ cycles.  I was 5 dpo today and it was the second day of temps below the coverline.  This is not the first time it has happened.  An OB/G had prescribed me progesterone before to help with temps and lengthen my luteal phase.  I still have some left over and am thinking of taking it again (even though i should have start a few days ago per the prescription).  Has anyone else had this and still gotten pregnant?  Is it anything to worry about?  I am afraid that there is no chance of being pregnant this month because of these temps.  Any advice, tips, or stories of success with this issue would be appreciated.

Second doctor: May 2014 - present: retested & dye test (told I am fine, but hubby has problem)
100mg Clomid = too many follicles = no IUI, cysts from last cycle = no IUI
four IUIs (last one cuz they wouldn't let me do IVF yet)

  • How long is your LP usually? You said it's happened before, did your temp go back up after a couple days?

  • It would be helpful to see your chart.

I wouldn't take any medication that I had without at least calling my dr and explaining the situation, they may want you to come in first before taking it. If you haven't O'd yet taking progesterone can inhibit you from ovulating at all.

In my experience when I had a couple days of high temps (enough to get crosshairs but not a huge jump) FF ended up taking them away shortly after. Each time has been anovulatory in my case. I hope that's not the case for you! some people don't have a huge jump in temps, but without your chart it is really hard to know.

  • I chart manually. I was thinking I could insert a photo, but the insert image button only seems to allow URLs.  I am not sure how to show an image of my chart. Any suggestions?

When you say that you chart manually, do you mean that you are not using an app like Fertility Friend? If you use FF, go on your computer and enter the account. You should see an option to share your chart. It gives you the URL to share ("get code").

If you've been charting on paper (or in some other app) you can input your temps in Fertility Friend (it's free and pretty easy to use) and then use your share link like URMySunshine77 described.
  • I'll do that today and add the chart.  By the way, love the pic of Jayne!

Was supposed to do IUI & trigger shot this month, but doc thought I would release too many eggs for her to feel comfortable with the those steps so they were cancelled.
Also, the OB/G that looked at my charts said I had a luteal phase defect due to the phase being too short.  That's why she proscribed me the progesterone for a cycle and then it was progesterone shots and femara the next two cycles then I switched doctors since they wouldn't give me a dye test. But I am deciding to not take the progesterone this month.  Last month seemed normal... not sure what's going on this month.

    What?

Are you seeing an RE? I'm so confused right now. You're currently on Clomid and aren't sure when you ovulated? Are you just guessing based on OPKs?
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.
  • She's a doc at a Fertility Clinic so I guess that would be an RE?  I am basing my belief that I ovulated on CD 15 on what the NFP course I took early last year taught and the OPKs.

How long is your typical LP? You've been charting for 1.5 yrs, so what's your average?

  • I might have heard that before somewhere.  If anything, now that I am in the habit I'm afraid to stop.  Just a thought, but I did research on affects of Clomid on BBT.  What I had found was that while taking it the temps go up, but afterward they should go back down.  Do you think taking Clomid 12-17 days ago could still be affecting my temps?  I am worrying over nothing, aren't I?

  • And based on your chart, you have not ovulated.

And luteal phase defect is not solely based on having a short LP. Did you have an endo biopsy done to see if your lining is out of phase?

No, that doctor didn't to that and the new one thinks my hubby has the issue and that I don't.

And no. Reproductive Endocrinology is a sub specialty of Obstetrics. Any idiot OB can call themselves an infertility doctor, but they are not even eligible to sit for the certification exam for an RE. Yours is an OB claiming to be educated in something they get minimal training on.

Temping and OPKs are both inaccurate while on fertility meds.

Thanks for the info.  Made me want to look up the clinic I go to... Apparently, the main doctor is an RE, but the second doctor (which is the one I am seeing) is not an RE.  That's really good information to know. :)
