baby with bronchiolitis :(

My 12 week old got diagnosed with bronchiolitis on Wednesday (7/9). DS has been coughing since June 22 which first started as a head cold that the Doctor said would clear up in about a week and postponed his shots til 6/30. Still coughing on 6/30 but received the clear for vaccines since no fever and his lungs sounded clear.  I was told his cough would go away within 7 to 10 days. Started Daycare 7/2 with an occasional cough. He begins to get some congestion and fast forward to 7/9 , Daycare calls me to say my LO is wheezing.

I took my LO to the Doctor and he prescribed nebulizer with the albuterol medicine. Follow up appointment was this past Friday. I had asked if there was anything other than the nebulizer and saline drops/nose frida/steam showers for vapor/humidifier, and he said no that that should be fine and to continue nebulizer treatments every 6 hours and follow up with the Doctor next week.

I feel like such a wreck and wish I could take his cough and congestion away. I also wish that he didn't have to be in daycare so young. Is anyone else dealing with their LO being sick this early on?

Re: baby with bronchiolitis :(

  • Mine had a cold around 4 or 5 weeks, and I thought that was rough. So sorry your little guy is going through this. :( I hope he gets better ASAP! Keep your head up; it sounds like you're doing everything right.

  • I'm sorry, it's miserable when our LO is sick. DS1 had to use a nebulizer for 6 months, from 4-10 months, because as soon as he caught a cold it would get really bad. And don't feel bad about daycare! I SAH with DS1 and he was still always sick.

  • aw well it sounds like you are doing the right thing! He will get better!!!
  • My DS (4.5 years old now) got diagnosed with this when he was 6 weeks old. :-( It was awful. His cough lasted from 6 wks to 14 wks. So so sad! It definitely affected his lungs long term, I feel. He also has a nebulizer and any cold he gets goes straight to his lungs...he gets wheezy and has a hard time breathing with lots of coughing fits. Poor nugget!!

Anyway, I feel your pain. Good thoughts to you and LO!
