Oliver grew out of his infant seat (was too long) about 2-3 weeks ago. We got the britax marathon and it is a great car seat but I really miss being able to take him and the car seat out when he is sleeping. I wouldn't rush it. I know plenty of kids who get their convertible car seat as their big present from parents on their first birthday.

Ash is definitely well under the max height/weight for his infant seat, so I'm sure we can hang on for another few months until he turns one. We have one Britax Marathon in storage, but need to purchase a second because I drop off and Z picks up (now we both have a base and the daycare has a car seat closet, so it works out well).
The infant seat is just so dang heavy, but I do see your point @mwagner25 about the sleep issue - that's the reason we've still been snapping his car seat into the stroller, but I have decided we need to get out the toddler seat for his stroller this weekend.
My son was about 9-10 months old (now 18) and about an inch or so from growing out of it. We did it for a number of reasons: 1. He's a pretty big boy (70-80% on height and weight) and we were never carrying him in his infant seat anymore; 2) he was hot and cramped and the convertible gives more room for airflow and movement; 3) he seemed like he wanted to sit up straighter in the car; 4) we let my parents use it exclusively (they had a base) for a month or so while we figured out what to buy for their car.
We used our Britax convertibles right from day one. The few times we used our infant carrier car seat (traveling, etc.) the weight of carrying it was just too much. I did like using the handle bar to create a mobile of sorts for Kaden though. Both kids loved the bigger seats even as newborns.

Exactly this. We made the move around 10 months of age, after he had started walking and was really resistant to getting into the infant seat. I think he was both hot and uncomfortable in there. But I have yet to be able to transfer a sleeping kid from his convertible seat to his crib. If Ash seems comfy in his infant seat, I agree don't rush it.

I think we'll use the infant seat for a bit longer. The max height and weight are 32 inches and 30lbs - honestly, I don't know that he will officially outgrow it even by his first bday, but that seems like a good time to switch given that he still seems comfy in it. And it is nice to use for a sleeping baby. Just last weekend he was sleeping when we arrived at a diner. We brought him in in the infant seat and when he woke up we were able to put him in the high chair. Convenient for us still.
We have a Graco 35, so W fits in it (almost 16 months) and we like it. It is a little smaller in our hatchback/mini-wagon, sow we like it. DW also feels it is safer than the Britax we have, but that's just her feeling, not based on anything. I'm fine with it and he likes it fine. The buckles are easier for me to adjust on the Graco.
People sometimes seem weirded out by our big strapping baby in a handhold car seat, but it is nice to be able to pop the whole thing out every once in a while, like running in to the post office.

We still have baby K in an infant seat, but we don't carry her around in the carrier anymore. She is almost 11 months old and weighs around 22lbs. It is more work to carry it around then keep a hold of her. But we are getting ready to transition her and M to different car seats so we can use the infant carrier for the new baby. I'm just dreading having three car seats in my car/wagon, but it's inevitable.
