Pregnant after 35

Choroid plexus cysts on my baby's brain???

So I went for my routine visit to see the OB this morning.  She mentioned a "choroid plexus cyst" on the baby's brain.  Anyone else familiar with this soft marker?  I am doing my best to not stress over it, but I am really hoping it turns out to be nothing.  I go for another ultrasound on Monday that will provide a much more detailed image.  They will keep an eye open for additional soft markers that would indicate whether or not there is a chromosomal abnormality.  Could use some positive energy and prayers if you would!  Thanks all.

I know so little about this that I had to google it just to see what it was. I wish I could help. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • Oh gosh. Hate that you have to wait all weekend before an ultrasound. Prayers definitely coming your way.

We got this soft marker at our LO's first anatomy scan. From my research online and Bump responses, one in ten babies has this soft marker. They are natural bubbles that clear up during fetal growth. If it is unaccompanied by other markers, it's usually nothing. They can easily clear up before the next scan. I wouldn't be concerned unless there are other red flags.

The doctor scheduled a follow-up scan and the cysts had cleared up by the second. Here is my BMB post if you would like to see other responses: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/8473240/need-to-share-choroid-plexus-cysts

Thinking of you. PM me if you would like to discuss!

Thank you so much, I found a lot of comfort in reading your post and all of the comments!  Doing my very best to not worry!

Thank you everyone for your kind words!!  Much appreciated!
  • I'm a NICU doctor.  I'm on the ttc boards but pop in sometimes to lurk.  This is a VERY common finding that is virtually always benign.  They will look for other abnormalities, but if there is nothing else, it's fine, it's isolated, it's random, and it will likely go away.  Do your best to not worry (I know it's like saying don't breathe), but the odds are heavily in your favor.
I am so glad I joined this group!! Thanks a bunch @siempre595 !!  Really appreciate you all taking a moment to help me feel better!

My son had the same. It was discovered in the AS, and we got the same news as you. We were worried sick up to the end! I wish someone would have tell me that it is fairly common and not a big concern. My son turned totally fine (well he is a bit crazy!!!) and he will be turning 3 in 3 weeks. Try to relax and enjoy the rest of the pregnancy :)
