3rd Trimester

37 weeks + emergency dental work

I have been having a rough week!  I had to go in for a root canal for one of my back molars this past Tuesday.  Well the dentist informed me that I would need to get the tooth behind it pulled because of irreparable damage. He said I should be able to hold off on that until after labor and delivery, but after getting the root canal done, my gums are so sore and the back molar is throbbing!  I have an appointment at 3:45 to have him check it.  This hurts worse than my labor experience with DD!!!  I am so nervous what they are going to say or do. Anyone get a tooth pulled while pregnant?  I am so nervous about it...Also, does high anxiety induce labor because I need my LO to stay until at least 39 weeks preferably?  Sorry I am so anxious and crying right now!

  • Yep, I got a tooth pulled while pregnant with my daughter. It was really NBD.

  • My front two teeth are veneers following an accident where I chipped them severely years ago and after years of doing composite went with a "permanent" solution about 5 years ago. I knew they would have to be replaced about every 10 years. But little did I expect that at 37 weeks pregnant I would bite into a peach, hit the seed, and chip off one of the front veneers so that I had just a little nub of tooth left. I went in to the dentist who was able to essentially just bond the chipped veneer back on. But I was told that I should not get the veneer replaced until after the baby comes. However, it was optional and I could do it if I felt strongly. It sounds like you got the same recommendation. So do what makes you feel best and most comfortable. For me having a temporary was terrifying because when I first got them done they kept popping off and so I feared losing my tooth during labor. But once it was stayed on for a week I realized that it woudl probably stay on until I was ready to replace it so I opted to do that. Long story short, I feel your pain and it seems that whatever you decide will be perfectly fine so just go with what is going to make you the most comfortable. Best of luck!

  • I think the anxiety may just raise your BP which could become a problem. My blood pressure went up when I was told I might need a c section with DS and I was worrying about that so I ended up getting induced a couple days earlier than planned b/c of that. So try to relax but I know that is hard dealing with that dental pain right at the end of your pregnancy.

  • I had tooth pain that was so horrible, all I could do was curl up in a ball on the couch and almost cry... when I was 36 weeks pregnant. I rushed to the emergency dentist (of course this happened on a weekend...) and I had a wisdom tooth in really bad shape and a huge cavity in the tooth next to it. I had the wisdom tooth pulled and ended up getting FIVE cavities filled! Pregnancy was not nice to my teeth. Anyway, looking back on it, I'm so glad I had it taken care of right then. It was a huge relief and no longer painful. Good luck with everything.. I know it's difficult :-(
