Summer time appetites

I feel like anything over 75 and getting LO to eat becomes a struggle. He only wants to eat fruit and graham crackers, which doesn't sound too horrible, but the fruit is causing havoc on his poor stomach. He is constantly gassy and something, or a combination of somethings is giving him a horrible diaper rash and sometimes anal fissures.

He's probably eaten half of what he normally does in the last 3 days but thankfully he is still drinking. Today was iffy, he really wouldn't eat anything solid without spitting it back out besides graham crackers and the fruit. And he didn't drink as much, he normally goes through 3 water sippys and I don't know if he made it through one! Hmmm I wounder if he's getting sick. =/

How have your LO's appetites been since the heat really started, if it has by you? Does the weather seem to affect how much and what they eat?

I don't know that it has anything to do with the weather, but we definitely have days where DD will barely eat anything. I think this is just normal toddler behavior, but it is frustrating. Like you, I can usually get her to eat some kind of fruit, graham crackers or maybe cheese. I hate those days because I find myself trying to bribe her with just about anything, just to get something into her. Luckily, she has been eating really well this week. It has been really hot though, so I don't think the weather affects her appetite one way or another. Try not to stress. Even the pedi told me at our 18 month appointment that the feast or famine thing is pretty normal for toddlers.

  • Weather is really playing a factor with Killian's appetite lately. Luckily he's growing so he packs most of his carb calories into dinner & wants a ton of food once its cooled down but during the day he just wants crackers, fruit (we try to stick with non-diaper-rash causing like watermelon, banana, blue berries, limited strawberries) and popsicles. He's learned to love ice cubes in his water so as long as I keep that fresh he's pretty happy. I found that the frozen bags of fruit at Costco/Sam's Club are great. They have the mixed berry (blue, black & raspberries) as well as a tropical mix of mango, papaya & pineapple. He loves to carry around a bowl of those to munch on since they are cold.

  • Sonja is a really good eater, but I am chiming in to second the frozen fruit and even frozen veggies (those really thin green beans and peas).  She loves those!  When she's eating light, I can normally get her to eat cheese, too.  And sweet pickles.
