Raw celery and carrot sticks?

Are any of the LOs eating raw celery or carrot sticks yet? We haven't tried it because I thought it might be a choking hazard, but she has almost all of her teeth now so I was reconsidering.

Re: Raw celery and carrot sticks?

  • We have done raw carrots with dd. I just chopped them into thin sticks. She likes them a lot actually. I haven't done celery though.

  • I have given her celery because I can't put anything in my mouth without sharing.  She doesn't really eat it, but just chews on it and leaves in somewhere in the house.  I think anything she bit off was so chewed up that it wouldn't be a hazard.
  • DS gets both as a snack at DC. They cut them into very thin strips. He loves to dip them in hummus.

  • We have done carrots, either chopped thin like they said or I do a giant end of one that she basically just gnaws little pieces off of.  I was and am still worried about it but she has all of her teeth so she has to learn somehow I guess!

  • DD doesn't have many teeth yet so I'm still too nervous unless it's basically shredded pieces.
