Rash from virus?

I'm currently 24 weeks and developed a rash on my hands an feet about 48 hours ago.  I woke up and there were red dots all over my palms and soles of my feet.  My hands were (and still are) itchy but my feet just hurt.  It can be painful when I walk.  I went to my OB and he said that it was probably an allergic reaction to something I was coming into contact with.  The only thing was that there was absolutely nothing that I was/am doing or using differently than I have been.  He gave me a hydrocortizone cream that did nothing to help.  I had to sleep with ice packs on my hands at night or else I couldn't sleep.  My OB also had me get blood work done which I am waiting for the results of.  Basically he said it wasn't pregnancy related.  I went to my physician the next day because I didn't feel better and he said that it was a viral infection and the rash is a result of that.  This made more sense since I had been with my brother who I was hanging out with this weekend had a sore throat and believed it was viral.  My physician gave me a stronger cream which has so far worked to relieve some pain and itchiness.  I'm seeing my dermatologist tomorrow because I don't see any improvement and I really need some guidance and a definite reason.  I'm still hoping both my OB and physician were right that it was not pregnancy-related.  Has anybody else had this?  I mean I have had viruses but never had a reaction like this from one.

  • I agree that it potentially sounds like HFM.  My husband just caught it from our son (who had a mild case) and he had the spotty hands and feet, a WICKED sore throat (but not everyone gets the sores in their throat) and he said his feet plain just hurt.

  • My physician told me that it wasn't HFM because he didn't see anything in my throat. How long did the rash last for HFM?  My OB wants me to go to the dermatologist so I have an apt today to see if she can figure it out. Thanks!

  • @kyliedaniellexx both drs told me something different and my OB is sending me to another dr.  It doesn't really help when different doctors give me different answers! Sometimes its more frustrating to go and not get a complete answer.

I have had this before. I ended up with a full body rash.  Originally before the rash I was sick and prescribed antibiotics. Later I broke out in a full body rash?  The Dr. Said the rash was either a result of the virus or an allergic reaction to the medication. He was leaning towards a virus because if the reaction itself.  I was given a cortisone shot. As it did not clear up I was later sent to a dermatologist who gave me another shot and some pills. I had the rash for about a month, it was miserable. Sorry you are going through this.

Edit: I guess I should say something similar not this...
  • Went to the dermatologist and she said it was HF&M and although it effects children and infants I can get it.  I just hope it passes through my system quickly.  Anybody know the average amount of time it could take? I've heard from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.
