Moms with babies on Zantac

So I posted a couple weeks ago about my daughter stiffening her body, arching her back, and screaming. I took her last week and the doctor just gave her gas drops. Didn't help. Well today she literally screamed for 2 hours straight was arching her back like she was in pain and refused to nurse for hours. Took her back to the doctor and they put her on Zantac. My questions is how we're your LOs acting when the doctor put them on Zantac? I guess I'm just worried bc I never like to take medicine unless its absolutely needed, let alone give my baby medication 2x a day everyday. Just wanting to hear your inputs on how your baby acts bc

Re: Moms with babies on Zantac

  • My baby screamed for hours a day, arched his back like crazy, and had to be in an upright position to nurse. He also spit up constantly. My dr watched me feed him in her office, where he kind of laid on my lap and arched his back throughout the feeding, and said it was one of the more extreme cases of reflux she'd seen. Zantac didn't help us and we have moved on to Prevacid.

  • My DS would arch his back, lots of unhappy spitting up, be miserable during the day, and choke. I tried to take him off Zantac because i hated giving him medication 2 x a day, but immediately he started choking again. So back on the medication for now.

  • My DS was on Prevacid, not Zantac - well, we tried Zantac first but it did nothing for him. He definitely did the arched back, screaming in pain thing. He would also wake up screaming shortly after lying flat, and spit up like crazy. I would try the Zantac for a little while to see if it helps.

  • LO has silent reflux though he spits up more now as he has gotten older. Our signs were sour breath, he would fall asleep nursing then wake up 10 minutes later screaming like he was in pain, made a yucky face after a swallow, choking, gasping, hiccups & sneezing constantly, pulling off breast constantly then crying & reattaching over and over. In a 12 hour period he would get less than 3 hours of sleep at 3 weeks old. Zantac took away the burning he was feeling & within two days he was sleeping like he should.
  • Our little guy is on Zantac, he was arching his back while feeding, a lot of other times as well. He turned into a new baby within 48 hours. I hate giving him medicine as well but the difference has been night and day, which to me means it was absolutely necessary. I can only imagine how uncomfortable he was pre-medication.

  • Ours was doing the same thing. Basically if she was awake she was unhappy with back arches and crying and if she wasn't crying she was grunting.

In our case the meds helped immediately. Around 3.5 months we stopped giving her the meds and have recently taken her off all together and she's still doing fine.
