So I purchased a basal thermometer from Amazon and then realized it only reads temps like 97.6 (to the tenth decimal point) as opposed to 97.63. Does anyone know off hand if that makes a difference? Tia
I agree with the others. Everyone is different. Go to CVS/Walgreens in the reproductive health aisle and you can pick one up for like $10-$15. It's worth it.

Yes it makes a difference. I had bought one off amazon like that too and decided to get a better one from CVS. It's way more accurate when you see the hundredth of a degree!

The nexcare bbt only reads to a 10th of a degree. I had no issues seeing a shift using it.
I recently switched to a mabis/relion bc I wanted the 100th of a degree, but it consistently reads .4-.5 degrees lower than my nexcare (I tested them at the same times). Not sure which one is accurate, but still see a shift.
That's interesting. I've also been using the Nexcare with no problems detecting a shift. Odd that it says it's a BBT but only reads til the 10th. Do you recommend switching to the Mabis after using both?
The first BBT I got only read to the tenth of a degree and I had no problem detecting a shift. I liked it because it would quietly beep every 10 seconds to let me know it was in place (and it kept me awake), and it also has a backlight display.
After 9ish months I bought a new one because I had left the old one at my mother's. It reads to the hundredth but doesn't beep throughout the reading or have the backlight and I miss those features. I just left the new one at my mother's on accident this past weekend and went back to my old one.
This sounds exactly like the one I have. I will use it for the next month and see what happens. I was kinda pissed and thought it wouldn't work but I will give it a fair shake. Thanks for your input ladies!
There are BBTs that only read to the 10th. I've used both.
IME, because of my own patterns, having it read to the 100th hasn't been necessary. My thermal shift usually has me jump from 97 to 98, so even if it didn't read to the 10ths I'd probably be okay. And I think most people have a thermal shift that's more than a 100th of a degree, so theoretically a thermometer only needs to read to the 10th. However, I prefer the thermometers that read to the 100th because I feel like they're more accurate, even though they're giving the same numbers. It's a head game thing.
TL/DR: You're probably fine with a thermometer that only goes to 10ths.
Re: basal thermometer
Some shifts can't be detected without readings to the.01
