Getting personal - distance with hubby

Hey ladies,
An unexpected thing is happening that I don't understand. My hubby is very happy about the pregnancy but since I have been sick with morning sickness, fatigue and headaches he has distanced himself. He brings me food, ginger ale, crackers and anything else I need but then goes into the next room to be alone. He said he feels helpless :( that he can't help me feel better. He's a great guy so it's just odd to me. Anyone's partner have a similar reaction? It just makes me feel more alone in my misery.

  • Maybe he just wants to give you space because that's what he would want if he felt so yucky. Mine was similar with my first.

Also, he might just have a few "off" days, like everyone sometimes does, while he's processing the next 9 months and beyond.

Don't worry, it will all even out :)

  • So sorry to hear this is happening!  Some people just don't get it. You might ask him to just sit with you a little bit.  Maybe watch a movie together even if you're not feeling well and just let him see that he can be around you even if he can't *fix* everything - my DH is a fixer too.  With my first, I was horribly sick in the first trimester.  Sometimes I would just lie in bed and DH would come spoon me and watch a movie with me.  Perhaps you can convince yours to do something similar.  :)

  • He can't read your mind, but if you express your needs to him hopefully he will understand.

  • Mine needs to be across the house when I puke... He can't handle it. He also hates that he can't help me feel better.

Talk to him? Tell him even his presence is comforting :)

Thanks ladies, I asked him to lay with me last night to watch a movie an he did. It's just a bummer. I'm sure 2nd trimester will be better for both of us!
  • Aww, glad he ended up watching a movie with you. My H is doing this as well, but, I would be lying if I said I did not kinda enjoy a little bit of space. I dunno, I am introvert like that so when I am feeling like poo I come upstairs and hang by myself in bed and feel pretty happy about it!
