Emotional Day on many levels.....

I had a rough day, 3 strikes, anything more and I think I may break.

I got my recent annual physical results today. After suffering high cholesterol since I was 11 (it was over 400 at that young age) and managing it for year, I had to be off all meds while PG and BF'ing. That means no meds since Sept 2012. Well the result was 381! I am back to where it all started. It is not diet related, I eat healthy, I am 142lbs at 5'7" so not over weight either. This leads to my second blow of the day....

I need to go back on statins to get my cholesterol under control. That means I need to stop BF'ing immediately. We are only down to 1 feed a day now (he is nearly 14 months) so not a biggie but I wanted to end it when LO ended it and not have to force it. I have a small stash in the freezer so we will use that up and blend in WCM for a few days to transition over. I did shed a tear just now at our last feed and LO pointed to by boob at the end. So sad...... DH will have to do bedtime routine for a few weeks now until LO forgets about BF'ing.

Lastly, DH and I have not been so carful lately and my period is late. We are very OAD, mostly due to age. I know after IF and all I should want more but I think that the 1 is a good fit for us on may levels. Well I tested and it was negative, but still stressed me out having to test and the thoughts of what if running through my head. No idea why AF is late this month, and I feel crappy too. Maybe just one of those months.

There is no real point to this post. Just need to purge myself of all the news of today and the emotional upheaval of a day. I need a strong drink tonight and early to bed

Good luck with the instant weaning. I'll keep FX that your lateness is just your body being wonky! (I know that's a crazy thing to FX for around here, but I mean well!)

((Hugs)) being forced to stop bfing is hard. It's one thing when you and/or baby is done, but being told hurts

I'm sorry. 14 months is a great thing though!! Weaning is hard, but it will be okay. Feel better!!

And I wanted to add, go treat yourself to some new bras. You deserve it.

Can you get a second opinion on the cholesterol? Mine was 425 prior to having my first child and the drs agreed it was okay to wait until I was done having kids to start statins. I don't have any other co-morbidities/cardiac risk factors.

Also there is research that suggests cholesterol levels should not be tested while BFing. Your body makes extra cholesterol because the baby needs it.

Hugs to you. I 2nd @jesselayne8‌'s suggestion of a 2nd opinion. Or simply tell your PCP that waiting another 1-2 months to restart the medicine isn't going to make a huge difference. I feel like most PCPs just go by the rules and they know SO LITTLE about childbirth and BFing. It's not like you had a heart attack and HAD to be on aspirin & cholesterol meds.... It is a hereditary thing which I think is very different from people who have high cholesterol due to poor lifestyle.

Hugs. I agree that seeing if you could wait a month or two before going back on meds would be a good idea. Also what about seeing if there was a drug you could take that isn't BFing adverse? Or at least until your son weans?

Very interesting, thanks for that. I will hold off with the meds until I can speak to my PCP.
