Super long naps??

My kiddo is 7 weeks old and I'm trying to get her on a feeding/naps schedule, but she's making it hard.  Usually I feed her around 7/8 a.m. and again 3 hours later, and after one of these feedings she'll pass out and nap for like 4, sometimes 5 hours straight.  Then she won't sleep again (unless I put her in the stroller and she falls asleep during a walk) until I put her to bed until around 9 p.m.

Anyone else experiencing this? I'm wondering if I should start waking her up during naps to try and get her on a schedule?

  • Is she STTN?

  • I would say if you have a happy baby and is fine with that and sleeps good at night there is nothing broken, nothing to fix :)
  • My DD is going on 9 weeks and has been taking 3-3.5 hour naps late morning.

I never wanted to wake her, but it's a struggle to get her to take any other naps during the day, which leads to a very rough time getting her down at night.

Needless to say, I am going to have to wake her from these long morning naps at the 2 hour mark even if it's just to eat.
  • Umm jealous. LO is 7 weeks and doesn't nap for longer than an hour during the day (unless we've driven in the car somewhere).
  • Not sure if she is STTN at all but LC recommended not letting LO go longer than 3 hrs btwn feeds during the day. That way she gets her calories in during the day. In general it seems to work. This week has been a crap shoot but on a good day she'll eat, play, nap and then she is usually awake again by 3 hrs. Naps aren't going so well this week (with exception of today- good so far!) so she was eating every 2 hrs. I will say the days I've had good routine on a 3 hr eating schedule (give or take 30 min) she's slept the most at night (5.5-7). We are trying the EASY approach
  • @KellyQ116‌ - are you loosely following the easy schedule or do you have times you strive for? I am trying to implement but letting LO go off is his needs and times. I am still only getting 3 hours of sleep at night, so I was curious how it is going for you.

  • I wake LO between 3 and 4 hrs during the day. Lately, she mostly catnaps through the day with maybe 2 longer naps. She cycles through eating, being wakeful, and sleeping pretty well throughout the day. We just can't always be sure how long each cycle is going to last.

  • @manna1212‌ loosely following. It's hard to get her down for naps right now. And if I really think she's hungry I will feed her and not wait the 3 hrs btwn. Today she did well with naps but we were at a friends house till 9:30 and now she's super fussy. I feel bad now that I didn't try harder to get her down earlier tonight. I will say on the days we've stuck to it the best have been her longest stretches of sleep. We'll see how tonight goes. What I've come away with mostly is how important the day naps are and trying to pick up on sleepy signs and get her to sleep at the first sign. She sleeps so much better at night when she naps. Sorry if this is rambling
