Dairy Free? Come in.

Anyone here dairy free? My son has terrible ezema and ped recommended I try dairy free. I am on week 2. If so, what sort of improvement did you see in your baby? How long did it take you? For any who have tried it and its not been the source of lo's problem, when did you know it was time to throw in the towel?. Thanks for your input!!!!

Re: Dairy Free? Come in.

  • Hi, there! Yup, there are a bunch of us that are dairy free. We have a weekly check-in, if you're interested:

I started by removing all dairy and soy (hidden as well). It took about 5 weeks for the proteins to make there way out of our systems and then I started seeing results. Later, I had to cut out a handful of other things (eggs, nuts, corn, etc) and still have some bumps along the way but things are SO MUCH better!! You definitely don't have to throw in the towel if you still want to BF! GL!!

You might see improvement with simply cutting obvious dairy, or you may need to cut all "hidden" dairy as well. Here is a good list of ingredients that may contain hidden dairy: https://www.godairyfree.org/dairy-free-grocery-shopping-guide/dairy-ingredient-list-2

GL! We are here to answer questions. :)

  • It took about 4 weeks of no dairy, soy, egg, nuts and peanuts for me to see an improvement. He had redness on his bum that finally disappeared, an improvement in his eczema, much less gas and he smelled better. Good luck!
  • I can't really answer your questions unfortunately since I'm also just starting out on dairy/soy free diet but just wanted to say that the ladies in the MSPI check in have been super welcoming and helpful! Good luck!!!

We actually supplement with formula and switched first to the sensitive formula then to soy formula. Our baby was horribly gassy on the milk based formula and we noticed a HUGE difference within a week when we switched to soy. Since I also pump and feed bm I also try to stay away from too much dairy in my diet. I notice it does affect her.

    Edited because...well, I'm tired. :P
